Pls help : older 525 vs newer 523?

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting either a 04' 525 or a newer 05'/06' 523. Having searched through the forum, it seems that both 523 and 525 have had improvements over the last few years (both in equipment and hp). The 04' 525 seems to have only 184/193 hp (???) while the later 523 has jumped to 190hp. Appreciate if any guru can help me understand what would be a better buy assuming price is almost the same.

Anyone know where else I can get a spec sheet of the 04' 525 and the 05' 523? So confusing,,,,

i will go for the newer 523I as there will still be warranty left, assuming 06 model. spec wise slight differance in the i-drive,power,etc. however, u can always chip up ur 523I and add another 30+ bhp which costs slightly over 1k.. power wise shd be the same or as good as a 525i after the tuning.

also u need to take note of the wear and tear of a 04 car, i believe mileage will be high, parts would hv been worn out, which translate into more servicing, maintainance,etc which will result in higher overall upkeeping cost. not to forget the troublesome inspection, the value that u can sell ur car after u keep it for another few yrs.. just my 2 cents of comments

'05/'06 523 is still 177 hp. Only the facelifted ones available after mid-'07 have 190 hp.

I believe that the two models you are looking in question has almost the same features/specs besides the engine. The advantage of getting the 525 would be the depreciation would be less than its newer 523 brother.

But if I were in yr shoes, it would be the 523....

Hi,

Thanks for all the reply..having looked at the cars available, decided to go for a 525 as the dep seems reasonable. Will drive for a couple of years and then can conside the new updated 5 series. Thanks and catch you all soon.

Guys, out of good intention and no offence to anybody here but my understanding is to extract 30pony from n.a. engine ,moreover a new il6 engine kinda a tall order to me. well, i could be wrong, if reali it work, it bring 523 LCI to 525 LCI level and edge out by 2 horses to be precise. I be the first to jump in..... anyway buyer beware....
