I saw in the classified ads that Teo Tien Seng is selling parallel import new BMWs at a low price eg. their 530i with sunroof goes at $222.1K. PML price, without sunroof, is about $243K, almost 20K difference. Their 525i is going for $188K, or at about the same price as PML's 520i.

Granted that warranty will not be from PML but given the price difference, long interval in between oil services, availability of BMW specialists workshops like Riverview and J4C, and the overall reliability of BMWs, is there any compelling reason for someone shopping for a new BMW NOT to consider the parallel import?

hehehe ...... I am considering buying from TTS leh......525.... but heard that the OMV of the 525 is very close to the 520 around 63K++

I read in ST some months back that TTS will import the Made-in-Germany 3-series, not the South African ones that PML brings into Singapore. This was based on an interview with a TTS spokesman and apparently this will be their marketing strategy to stay on top of their main competition, as a BMW re-seller in Singapore.

astrid,

You drive a Lexus?

TTS' prices are after 90% loan rebate. Not much cheaper than PML's, but definitely of higher specs.

i think pml has to support the manufacturer's warranty as well am i correct? only the extra 1 year pml warranty is not covered.

  :furious:

Car can still be sent to PML for warranty claim....

The PI car will have a 2 years unlimited mileage international warranty. Those high mileage driver will benefit since PML car is 100k, 3 yrs warranty...

Only catch here is tat u have to pay upfront for the claim and PML will reinburse when BMW.AG pay them, which usually takes up to 2 month...

Tanzy,

Spot on. Yes, an IS200. ;)

Actually have you xconisdered doing the paralle import ourself ?
Say the new 318's OMV is $45k, our parallel import price should be about
(OMV 45k x 2.3(taxes) + COE 25k) = $130k, that is about a $25k savings from the estimated selling px of the new 3 series.

I am looking to acquire one but still contemplating on this option. Any comments on my above idea. Do anyone know where is the best place to import from, it seems Germany is still quite cheap even with the strong euro, South Africa's list price is still about $66k and they have not reply me on export prices, wonder how PML obtain the cars at about $45k (with shipping) ? Any comments.

I think the PI idea is worth exploring.

EZ Import used to do importing of cars and handle all the paper work for you for $5,000 flat fees. You could do all the approval etc yourself and you could save that $5K fees, however, I reckon it is fairly time consuming.

Their website is at www.ez-import.com, but it is down right now, so, I could not verfy if they still provide that service.

There is one other guy, Jeremy Jonathan, not sure if he is still doing it or not.

Hey bro, Jeremy Jonathan is my cousin, he has ceased his operations already. But I could check whether he is still able to do for you though. Thanks
