The ups and downs of being a taxi driver in Singapore
For me.. try taking a taxi from airport to Pasir Ris...the smiling hardworking friendly taxi uncle's immediately turns black and whole journey either keeps quiet or talks sarcastically on his walkie talkie to his taxi buddies "wah, I hero, 2 times today, airport to Tampines, airport to Pasir Ris..must be never burn enough joss sticks..."
For such drivers, I take back EXACT change, no tips. $13.40, I give $14 and wait for my 60 cents.
For those nice drivers who smile and are friendly, I will feel bad and have no qualms giving the driver $20 and say keep the change.
