Hi!
I am currently drinving a E46 (4 dr). Since 2 months ago, I noticed that the serious loss of throttle response. Normally, acceleration from red light is OK. But, when I slowed down & pick up again, something it did not respond till about few seconds later. even when i fully depress the gas, it does not respond. Anyone know what happed or have similar problem? Please advice. My car is almost 5yrs old.

Thanks!

Hi Tommy,

Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear u are currently driving a E46.
With regards to your problem, may I suggest u make an appointment with R2D, Rodney.
I am very sure our 46ers appointed resident Tuner would definately be able to advise and help.

Give him a call @ 96651761 to make an appointment.

Cheers

Its a 318 isnt it? They are all like that

You can reprogramme the transmission ECU, orrrrr, put a power pedal or sprint booster, they help a bit

Mine is like that, and it annoys the hell out of me and I also think its dangerous in case i need to move quickly, no response!

However, have anyone had this prob got it solved? What seems to be the prob? And cost of repairing it? If cost is not feasible, may consider to upgrade it to E60 or E90.

Thanks!

Re: Loss Of Throttle Resposiveness of my E46

Tommy, its not an error or a problem, its just the way it is. It is a conservative set up by BMW. Like i said, you can reprgramme the trans ECU to make it different but it will snap into gears harder, which i think is a good thing.

Like i said, sprint booster or a power pedal helps trick it a bit.

go see some of the forum sponsor workshops.

tommy, try driving in SD - push your gearshift to the left.

guess that's the quick fix. other than that, you will have to remap your ecu.

done mine and no regrets, but not cheap.

like somebody once said 'ai hiong siu, dio ai chiap siu.' phil, do you agree?

I can almost 100% confirm chop chop it is the air mass sensor kaput.

5 years liao, the wet film die already. Need to change air mass sensor.

Pls ask them to check AMS first.

For me, the clue in the post is intermittently happen. In the AMS feedback loop, everything is pretty much steady state except for the O2 sensor and the AMS wet plate. O2 sensor will throw a CEL, but in this case no CEL, so most probably AMS wet plate, which ... when fully charged with wetness in a low throttle low airflow situation, it will be ok throttle response, but after spirited driving with high airflow, without fully charged, it will screw up.

As I have always mentioned, I think Robert Bosch makes CRAP.
