Does anyone know if modifying your motor/car to the point of not being street legal will affect (or even void) your insurance policy?

Yes, having illegal modifications to your motor/car will void your insurance policy.
For example; by turbocharging your BMW and getting involved in an accident, will deem your insurance cover void.

But my van already came with turbocharger. How?

What about the less serious mods? Air intake? Or simply strip all out?

Simple mods like air filter change, muffler. spark plugs change.. these won't cause your insurance policy to be affected.

Only more serious ones like Nitrous Oxide (NOS, ZEX, VENOM etc), fabricating a turbocharger / supercharger will DEFINITELY directly cause your insurance policy to be nulled void in the event of an accident claim.
