Buy used or mod new?

Considering pros and cons for two possiibke options

A. Mod a current new 523 il6
1. Ecu upgrade to 250-280 hp
2. Sport shocks and coilovers
3. Interior upgrade to M-kit dash display, shift gear, steering etc
4. .............

VS

B. Buy used X5/6 (or even a used M3)

Wondering what would be the total cost of upgrade to the max for option A?
Intuitively it would seem to be way cheaper $-wise but there are other costs like time, warranty, and the potential heartache that such mods may do more damage that what it's worth.

So what do you all think? Mod or buy used?

Re: Buy used or mod new?

Re: Buy used or mod new?

In the wise words of bro Ahwing - stock is best

My bro won't remain stock forever ok..... wait and see... he will succumb one day hehehe...

Re: Buy used or mod new?

Get a used M3. Nothing beats the real thing.

Re: Buy used or mod new?

Yeah getting a real M is better than modding a non M........I may be wrong as I read somewhere that adding 3 coloured M stripes will add 69bhp....

Must add on front grille, if placed elsewhere, the gain will be different

Yes, I agree - someone recommended me to put the 3 stripes on my washer fluid tank... now, I feel all the 69hp gains are only on my R front wheel ... sibei hard to keep the car in a straight line now, KNN Chow MW...

Re: Buy used or mod new?

If u paste the stripes on the rear, ur butt feel will improve. I say one

Re: Buy used or mod new?

HAHAHA!!
Thanks much for the great comments and great humor!!.....!!

...stock is really best!! but mod is soooo exciting!!....
...was actually eyeing an "on-auction" white M3 but by the time I got to it...tooo late...
...cannot buy all 3, though that's my desire but reality bites!!
...looking at an X6 now...but only seats 2 pax behind!!..heard that newer versions are 3-seater back.

actually computed the rough cost of total mods...see below, what do you all think?
(all costs are estimates for material only, labour is lumped into one item))
1 M-Kit-exterior $7,000
2 M-Kit-interior $10,000
3 Coilovers $3,000
4 Shocks $3,000
5 Twin exhausts $3,000
6 Labour $4,000
7 Tuning kit $3,000
ROM $33,000

So adding 10-15% buffer, all-in roughly $38,000 for a "modified" "strawberry" IL6 F10!!
(But I qualify that there is the un-computed cost of down-time and opportunity cost as well)

VS the cost outlay of about $70-80k for a used X6.....about $110-130k if its is a used M3...
(used means about 2yrs and trade-in the F10)

....sighh!!...$$-wise mod seems to make more sense!!!

Re: Buy used or mod new?

But bro, deep inside, deep down inside, you'll know it's not the same...

I love the fact that my F13 640i drives and pulls like a dream - but deep inside, I really wish I'd been more decisive & plonked down the extra money for a 650i when I signed on the piece of paper. And, after I'd done that, deep deep deep inside, I know I should have waited for the M6 to come out... and deeper still, in the deepest recesses of my mind & heart, I know I actually really wanted an R8 spyder like hitmee's
