Hi all,

Really very heartache to see my car became a dumping ground of bird's poo last night.

Tried cleaning it but can see the residual paint damage has been done.... Any suggestion to lessen the destruction?

Sigh.....

Try groomwerkz? Or how bad isit? Got pic bro?

Re: Any cure for the paint damage from toxic bird shit?

Already "bitten" into the clear coat......

Re: Any cure for the paint damage from toxic bird shit?

as long as it has not been baked in the sun, then a emergency grooming session might save the paintwork

but if u sun tanned ur car, then Plan B..change car colour..best reason liao

Or u can chose to wrap yr car will cost lesser den new paint works... But if gana dropping again u need to keep changing the wrap.. Best to change paint wif hard solid laquer ... Even the cat urine can't penetrate....

hi flyboy,
there is a product i used to have from ZYMOL.
it's call the cleanser if i can still remember.
the liquid is brown colour and has a nice chocolaty scent! (no joke)
i'm not sure who is the distributor of ZYMOL now ... but this is one product you can't find in auto-bacs/decent stores selling car grooming stuffs.
apply generously on the matt patch with your fingers. give it a nice "massage" in rotary motion.
use a moist cloth to clean off.
the cleanser should remove the matt patch ... maybe not 100% but it's is definately much better!

following the cleanser, you might want to try using ZYMOL cleaner wax.
cleaner wax is something you can easily buy in autobacs or even in Giants supermarket.
cyan colour liquid and a nice coconut scent (no joke really).
samething - apply generously onto the matt patch ... leave it to dry abit .. then remove the wax coating with a dry cloth.

this should remove at least 80-90% or more of the matt patch now.

CLARIFY:
don't get me wrong - i am not a ZYMOL seller here.
just that i used to get engaged with a very good polishing house that uses 100% ZYMOL products
(some of you may already know which house I'm talking about) ...

hope your car shine!

You will need professional polishing to remove the mess.

Sympathize with you. My F10 also kena but luckily just a couple of drops. It appears that the paint work in BMW cars is not so robust. My Golf GTI paintwork could withstand bird shit alot better.

Re: Any cure for the paint damage from toxic bird shit?

Thanks for all the advice, tried all conceivable means, except respraying, damage has been done....

Saving grace is that the affected area is only on the top of the car, total area about 1 A4 size area.... sigh

DAMN THOSE BIRDSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Did u compare the paint's age for age? Also BMW and VW was 'hit' by which breed of bird shit (different breed has different acidity)? Otherwise I think it's a pov which cannot hold water.

Anyway no offence intended, just clarifying to up my post count, ROFL.

Yes, even spray painters and groomers say BMW paintwork is among the best in the mkt

Re: Any cure for the paint damage from toxic bird shit?

The kind of bird droppings is crucial. I am most afraid of the purple kind.
I reckon it's because it's "fruit" based hence super acidic. That shit eats into the clear coat fast.
BMW paint work is solid. Doesn't chip easily, can stretch and if maintained well ,keeps the car looking brand new.

Re: Any cure for the paint damage from toxic bird shit?

BMW paint is quite hard, though not as hard as lead based car paints of old. Not sure if its as solid as the VW's though. I heard from a few people that VW group's Audi and Lambo paints are rock solid as they use ceramic coats where as most other manufacturers use water based base and clear.

If VW group uses the same ceramic coats on their VWs, should be more durable than BMW's. Believe a lot of detailers on specialist car detailing forums state that a regular audi A6 paintwork has a hardness of 5 on the MOH scale.

One way of enhancing the hardness of car paint and preventing toxic etching after manufacturing is applying opticoat/optiguard or cquartz finest. Will normally increase your hardness to around 7-9 on the MOH scale.

With etched toxic bird poop, you may want to just pay a professional to do paint correction. Its not cheap if properly done but it will make the paintwork on your vehicle better than when it left the factory as paint correction also corrects factory paint defects.

I own a VW Golf GTI before my current F10 523 and I can confirm that the paintwork on my VW is a lot more resistant to bird shit stain than my F10. The F10 paintwork really looked fragile compared to the VW.

Way the bird must have used your car as a toilet... A4 size is no joke. Go for a good grooming session shld do the job.

Yup because BMW uses High solid Lacquer (if i am not wrong) which add to the shine and the thickest thus kanna bird shit and stuff would be easily polish off. Legend has it that this kind of lacquer put thinner on top and light fire also thick enough to withstand the consumption of the flame.

Will would dare try it on my F10 even though i could repaint in my shop lol...
