2km run in?

Hi guys,

Finally collected my car yesterday and my SE tells me I need to run in the car for 2000km and not exceed 4.2k rpm.

Is this information correct?

Thought continental cars are all factory run in and 4.2k rpm seems a little on the high side for the running in period.

Any insights?

Cheers

Hi S2K,

Indeed! My bad for the obvious typo, LOL

So you got the same message?

Re: 2km run in?

running-in is subjective i feel but for peace of mind, 2k and not exceeding 3k rpm sounds about right, i won't stick to 4.2k.

Re: 2km run in?

I believe the general guide for bmw petrol engine is first 2000km, max 4000+rpm and avoid extended idling.

Don't have to follow the given guideline so strictly, because all rules have been broken before you even stepped in your new car. Thrashed out of production line to pml alexander. Extended idling from cold when you collect your car in the nice nice collection room while you SE demo every single feature to you.:lol2:

Just drive slowly before engine is warmed up should be good enough. Probably quite difficult to cause premature wear on our road due to high rpm, coz step few seconds nia already 100+km/hr liao.
