Hi All,

I'm currently driving the E46 318 four cyclinder year 2001.

Recently, the oil presure light (yellow) starts to appear after I start the engine and goes off after 3-4 second. Not appearing after that.

Anyone here experience this?

Hope to hear from you guys/gals here.

Hi, i do have the same problem, check by my mechanic he claims that nothing wrong with engine oil level. Any one here can advise?

It's probably telling u that the engine oil is about at the threshold limit of when the light is coming on for insufficient oil...

Pull the dipstick to check for oil level.

The other reason i can think off is that the oil has not been changed for a while and the viscosity has decreased and the oil takes a longer time to travel up to the engine, hence the engine picks it up as insufficient oil level also....

In both cases, i wuld recommend that u put in one of those engine flush and change the oil...

The light should not appear after the oil change... The easier and simplier way will of course be to top up the oil and see if the light still comes on....

Bru thanks for the advise.

In fact, this happens after my oil changed. Vincent the mechanic, claimed that could be one of the pump faulty if not the sensor. He has confirm the engine oil level are within limits too. What about the bugs problem, could it be the caused?

:uhhh:

If that's the case, get the sensor checked then....

I don think the pump will fail so early.. it's mechanical in any case and the pump is within the engine...

If u need to change the pump, take the opportunity to change bigger piston at the same time hahahaha !!!!!

Thanks bro for info, the light appear before and after the servicing. Spoken to my mechanic and intended to just leave it as it is. anyway, it just light up for about 10 seconds and goes off. just don't rev high during that period after start and hope it should be ok.... tks ;)

Hi,

I just replaced the oil sensor pressure switch at BVO and the problem resolved.

4Fives,

Just remember to check your oil level at least once a week then. (though I suspect it could be the sensor from what you've described so far). Enjoy yr car!
