Why isn't there any love for the BMW 1 series?

Hey guys, in the market for a newer car that'll be more reliable and a little less of a maintenance than my current RX-8. I'm in the $18-$25k range and have obviously looked at most everything posted here everyday (WRX, MS3, Focus ST, BRZ etc.) But it seems for around the same price you can get a 135i 6mt. I've heard they have an (unfixable?) High pressure fuel pump that seems to be giving some people fits.
I suppose my question is why more people don't recommend this car to prospective buyers?
