E36 318iA comes with M40 (pre 94) or M43 (post 94)
E36 318iS comes with M42 (pre 94) or M44 (post 94)
The iS is usually coupe although there are a few rare 4-doors and it's the more powerful of the lot mentioned.

The E36 is a hardy vehicle and a workhorse. It handles well, easy to maintain and upkeep and usually comes with heavy doses of mod virus. The things to look out for is the usual.. e.g. service records if available, structural and engine integrity and general asthetics. There always will be some nitty gritty stuff going wrong given the age of the vehicle.... just ensure that it is stuff you can easily live with.

Most 318iS Auto unit is either scrapped or exported, it would be pretty rare to find one. You may need to tempt existing owners.. kekekekeke..
The pre-94 E36 comes with Sanyo Denso air-con compressor and it's bullet-proof if you asked me. Main problem is the bearings which is subjected to high wear and tear and needed replacement. Reportedly, it is also premium grade bearings (NHK or something like that) which is damn hard to source beside ordering them from the agent.
Generally, most people are unaware of the services an air-con compressor requires, hence there's not oil change provided and the gas top up happens only when cabin temperature becomes unbearable. This causes deterioration in the system. Other parts that may goes wrong is the control system which is largely electronics, so replacement of the module would be the answer.
My car is 14 yrs old and so is my air-con and I'm still enjoying the services. I manage to get 2 sets of the bearings which I have just used up. It's probably due to tracking pretty often with the air-con running..
, so is my fault. Now it looks like if I continue to do so, my compressor shaft would also wear out... tsk..tsk.tsk... time to give up tracking.. kekekeke.

More or less the same, 50%NCD+5% loyalty as well, unless you buying a 2-doors. If you're drop-dead handsome type and the counter sales-girl is interested.. then it's beyond me.. just remember to kai-siow can liao.

Sar lau gals sounds more frenly in person leh....until u tell them no $$$
alot of beemers? let me guess....its starts with M, E, or I?
the I guys are real frenly, everything also can until u go there, it all changes....hehe.
E guys are basically bochup, take it or leave it...but well, that was when they were back in their old place.
M guys....so far never tried them but feedback not that good.
so is your dealer from any of them or some other dealer?
