What do you guys recommend for increase power?

i recently purchased a 1998 E36 320i. It is SLOW!!! can anyone recommend any upgrades i can do to improve the power. i have supersprint exhaust on it. don't think it improved that much. maybe i have to remove my cat. will chip upgrade improve acceleration? any recommended chip? am i using OBD2? hope someone can help me. thanks in advance.

give it some air... K&N air filter or something similar... and reduce the weight

After market air filters should not be a problem with the MAF - Gruppe M build great air intake systems in carbon fibre and fit them internally with K&N filter parts. They allow the engine to breathe a lot easier.

The other thing you could do is duct the air from the front grill and do what ever you can to keep it cool. You should get in touch with Rodney (R2D) ... he does some great things with air intakes to reduce the temperature and duct it from the front of the car (and therefore get more air per square inch into the cylinder for combustion... especially in the Singapore heat).

also depends how much you love your current car. not trying to be funny here, but sometimes with the money put into modding the car to make it faster, might as well use it to pay downpayment on newer, more powerful car...

point taken. i don't expect to make it hardcore fast. just want to add a few hp. make the car accelerate lighter than how it feels now.

another question. what do you prefer, drop in k&n or the cone type?

add a 325, 328 or better still m3 block....muahahaha....bet u will be tearing up the streets back at home

yap change engine is best for NA. else I will suggest forged rims + PS2s, lighter brake kits (maybe alcon?)...other a/f tunning...etc is more money for marginal gains unless FI

Are you sure it is a 1998 E36 320i? Or is it a 1998 E46 320i? Or is it a 1988 E36 320i?

If its a E36.... join Club Sandy (E36 Gurus).... they will "poison" you... their cars are fast!!
If its a E46.... go find Rodney of R2D2, his is faster then norm

i think ur options may be limited. if u wanna add those hp.
u want acc power in low rpms or high rpms?

may wanna consider supercharge or turbocharge. but best in to drop a bigger engine. like what the rest say. hehe

Well Mark, it all depends on your budget for the MOD.
A chip would bring your preformance up by maybe 10HP.
An Air filter perhaps 3HP. So it really depends on how much power you want and how much is your budget.

actually, those are the 2 basic things i am thinking about changing but i am not sure of the HP gain and the cost. can you recommend a good chip for me..and not too expensive one.
