Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?
Oh, I forgot to add (otherwise, all the brothers will be rushing in here to comment) - 730Li still has that creamy, silky smooth, world famous strawberries & cream with sugar frosting
N52B30 IL6 engine. Hehehhe. Truth be told, it is a lot smoother than the V6 in the S300L.
And a couple of other facts: new 730Lis (as in the latest batch) also comes optioned with back window side electronic roller shades. My 730Li only has the roller shade for the rear window. Also, all 7ers have automatic 4 zone air con control - including individual climate control Left & Right for the back passengers. The 7ers also come with BMW factory sun-protection glazing for all windows - and if you add your favourite tint to it, it's super cooling.
S300L only has 2 zone control & only has air vent outlets for the passengers @ the back. But S300L got analogue clock - wife say a bit more high class than digital clock on Bimmer. Win some, lose some, I guess.
Sorry for being so lor soh, but I was also faced with a similar dilemma when making my replacement choice for the E65 a year ago (Jan 2011). We were considering the 740Li, S350L, S300L or 730Li. In the end, after weighing the pros & cons, we decided on the 7ers, but then the HPFP issue more or less settled us on the 730Li. Never regretted it - drives like a luxobarge should - wafts lazily on the roads, plenty of pulling power in a linear, predictable fashion, never seems rushed & the insulation is really superb.
We were reminded of just how well insulated the 7er was, over New Year's Eve, because we were carrying durians home & the car stank. So, I switched off the air-con, opened up the sunroof & downed the windows. FCUK, the roads are noisy!!! We've totally forgotten how cosseted & cocooned we've been, in the 730Li
And if your friend don't mind 'pre-registered' 730Li, there are specials going on at PML - saw the ad over the weekend. Apparently can save up to $39,000 and still get free hotel room stay! Listed retail is $355,800 for the 730Li, about $3K more than the S300L - but can nego a bit, I'm sure!
Good luck again, and I'll shut up now.
