Hi Gurus

Met a friend during this festive and asked me differences between 730Li and S300L?

All I know is 730Li is newer while S300L is facelifted in 2010. Interior I am really can't advise.

Any gurus can help?

Cheers and happy new year

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

The present S300L also has adjustable rear seats - no massage function, just electronic adjustment. The 730Li only has the normal seats at the back.

S300L no GPS, 730Li has inbuilt GPS. S300L don't have integral active steering, 730Li has IAS as standard, and although I don't like IAS per se, it is a life saver for car parking because the car is so fcuking long!!!

My info might be a bit outdated on this, but the time I was checking (end 2010/early 2011) out my E65 replacement, the S300L didn't have reverse camera - only parktronic sensors. The 730Li had reverse camera + guidance + park distance sensors.

The S300L has keypad for you to key in the phone number to call (bluetoothing your mobile phone), 730Li only has that idrive controller for you to spin until siao.

730Li also comes with PML's unique 7PP+ membership - free car spa, free yacht hire, chauffeur usage twice a year, pick up and drop off servicing etc - all for first 3 years of ownership. S300L got zip all in this department.

I decided on the F02 ultimately because my previous E65 also allowed me to enjoy the lifestyle benefits - and we made use of the yacht hire, chauffeur service etc on more than one occasion.

Good luck to your friend!

Happy new year!

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Oh, I forgot to add (otherwise, all the brothers will be rushing in here to comment) - 730Li still has that creamy, silky smooth, world famous strawberries & cream with sugar frosting N52B30 IL6 engine. Hehehhe. Truth be told, it is a lot smoother than the V6 in the S300L.

And a couple of other facts: new 730Lis (as in the latest batch) also comes optioned with back window side electronic roller shades. My 730Li only has the roller shade for the rear window. Also, all 7ers have automatic 4 zone air con control - including individual climate control Left & Right for the back passengers. The 7ers also come with BMW factory sun-protection glazing for all windows - and if you add your favourite tint to it, it's super cooling.

S300L only has 2 zone control & only has air vent outlets for the passengers @ the back. But S300L got analogue clock - wife say a bit more high class than digital clock on Bimmer. Win some, lose some, I guess.

Sorry for being so lor soh, but I was also faced with a similar dilemma when making my replacement choice for the E65 a year ago (Jan 2011). We were considering the 740Li, S350L, S300L or 730Li. In the end, after weighing the pros & cons, we decided on the 7ers, but then the HPFP issue more or less settled us on the 730Li. Never regretted it - drives like a luxobarge should - wafts lazily on the roads, plenty of pulling power in a linear, predictable fashion, never seems rushed & the insulation is really superb.

We were reminded of just how well insulated the 7er was, over New Year's Eve, because we were carrying durians home & the car stank. So, I switched off the air-con, opened up the sunroof & downed the windows. FCUK, the roads are noisy!!! We've totally forgotten how cosseted & cocooned we've been, in the 730Li :)

And if your friend don't mind 'pre-registered' 730Li, there are specials going on at PML - saw the ad over the weekend. Apparently can save up to $39,000 and still get free hotel room stay! Listed retail is $355,800 for the 730Li, about $3K more than the S300L - but can nego a bit, I'm sure!

Good luck again, and I'll shut up now.

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Thks again bro Wobbles

I thk his main concerns would be the completely new model S coming in 2012/2013 or the facelifted 730Li F02 in term of its resale value.

Other than that He told me he really likes the comfortable S300L.

What is yr take?

Truth be told, altho I say BMW very strawberry n will sleep inside one, I think the S Class looks better than the old 7er...n spit at BMW tat time. But tat all changed when F1/2 arrived. Now I spit at S Class and Sherman cuz he has the old 7er

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

No worries, bro Hublot. My opinion is that once the new S comes out, the old one will look dated - fast. I also fell prey to the same feeling with my E65. I got a brand new E65 near the end of its life-cycle (2008). A year later, the F02 came out (2009/2010). Less than a year after the F02's hit the road, I buay tahan already, and went shopping at PML. I ended up trading in a 2 year old E65 with about 12K on the clock.

Unless your friend is really not bothered about his car looking old & dated (although it's a brand new car), then, go for the S300L if he's being driven around. Got the electric adjustable seats @ the back - shiok leh.

If he's not being chauffeured, but he drives, he'll find the S300L sluggish off the line & the V6 is a little short of grunt compared to the venerable IL6, IMHO.

My family (apart from me) are all Merc drivers (C, E, S - you name it, they've owned it) - so, I do have a bit of experience with both marques. After I defected to the Roundel Camp, frankly, I've never looked back.

Maybe he should wait for the new S to be released - but then, the S300L will take at least 1/2 a year to a year later to appear on the roads. Usually they release the big-engined capacities first, then only filter down to the base models. Having said that, the new E launch deviated from set precedent by launching the E200 & E250 @ the same time as the E300 & E350 - smart move, IMHO. Maybe the new S will follow the convention?

Happy New Year again!

+1 what bro MW said. Present S class looks nicer than old E65/66. However, I personally feel the S class is ALSO a fugly piece of slapped on styling. WTF issit with the rabbit hutch boot cover? That's so old-school Bangle. Want to copy also not to that extent mah. Fugly. Really Fugly.

F02, now that's a sleek piece of metal, IMHO... hehehe. I have to say that mah, since I'm driving one now.

Of course, when my F13 comes in, I will also say "mmm... F13, now that's a beautiful piece of work", hahahahaha.

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Yesterday got a new maroon 640 park beside me at whitesands shopping mall. I thot my Yam5 very nice until my wife said "this car sleek, when u buying?"

I quickly changed subject by saying forum many short Homos like Hitmee

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

The 640 is coupe or convertible? I only saw ONE coupe so far - mineral white. Think it's bro spursburger's ride :)

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Coupe. Maroon on black interior I think. Everything stock. I think he parked beside me knowing sure no dent or scratches but I left fingerprints on his driver's side window. Sorry

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Woah. That's a nice color - vermillion red with black interior. Next time, I also look for your yam5 to park next to. Sure no dents. Fingerprints and saliva drool marks can wash off one hahaha

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Thks all for precious info. Already fwd my frd word for word. He is again asking wat is d all time favorite int/ext colour combo? Black n dark brown?

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Bro Wobbles

Like what I told you last week...at your age you should be getting the M5 and not the F02 unless u need to be chauffered around especially after every painful badminton game.

640i is one nice strawberry ride..

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Bro hublot, combo for F02? I can share my fav combo - sapphire black exterior with saddle brown duo-tone interior. Swee- got class :) I'm boring, but F13 will also be this type of combo - Carbon Black outside and Cinnamon Brown duo-tone inside.

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Bro Hublot, white in brown or black interior is also damn swee. White will make the 7er look damn big and imposing, perfect for the towkay :)

I think 730Li in Asian markets will still retain strawberry N52. N55 reserved for 740Li - if they swap the N54 out, that is. Right now, the 740Li pre-face lift is still running N54 engines, IIRC.

Re: S300L W221 vs 730Li?

Most Singapore/Asian towkays would still stick to the MB S Class precedency..

My frd showed me the brochures but indeed the present deal will AMG kits made the S-Class very sportier as compare to the present 730Li F02.
