Road or rail freight options?

Assuming time is of no concern, what is the cheapest way to get a couple of small crates (100 cubic feet each, weighing max 400lbs) from Singapore to Bangkok? Are road or rail options cheaper than sea and air? If you happen to be familiar with this stuff please let me know thanks. I know I can ask the freight companies, but their estimates are always so far off that it's as good as no answer.

Time is of no concern, as long as its all tracked, insured.

Re: Road or rail freight options?

Road freight is what I will recommend. In 2006 when the new BKK airport opened with much chaos and backlogs, we used trucks to bring certain high tech products from BKK to SIN. They are operated by well-known transportation companies and are reasonably reliable as far as tracking is concerned. They are not the TH trucks carrying durians to SIN!

I won't recommend rail due to:
- relocation of the railway station... you now have to move your stuffs to Woodlands
- no clear connection between MY and TH rail services
- customs transfer from MY rail to TH rail can result in delay due to transhipment and declaration issues
- zero visibility of your shipment

Road transportation is definitely cheaper than air and sea. If you want to insure the goods, you have to tell the operator upfront. Hope this advice helps.
