i think it will be good to wait for the new 5 Series before comparing this E60 as this E60 has been around for like say a good 5 to 6 years.......and looks like it is ending the cycle very soon.......

not much of a comparison at the moment. the E class is brand new while the 5 is an outgoing model. The E is packed with ground breaking technology used even on the facelifted S class. In terms of features, E class is sure to win hands down.

However in a comparison test i read some weeks back the 5's engine and handling is still to die for compared to the new E class. Cant imagine what the new 5 is capable of.

I find that the new E-Series seem to have a mismatched buttock. Front looks sleek but the back looks errrmmm so much like a certain Jap model

i went down to the e-class launch today..this new e-class seems so much better than its previous generation..got quite a few new tech stuff that help drive in following areas like parallel parking, long distance driving..it looks sportier but its grill is awful looking..

overall, not enough to sway me away from waiting for the new 5-series next yr..

absolutely right, total mismatch for tail lights that look like Hyundai Sonata!!!!
No test drive just yet. Will have to wait for Sales Rep to call u when they become available.

At this point, the W212 E Class is much more superior and technically-sophisticated than the dated E60 5-er.

There is no compare.

For the same money, it would be a no brainer. Mercedes Benz is the way to go ... for now, at least.

There is also no feeling like driving your brand new Merc... cruise slowly while everyone admire the cutting edge design etc.

And then countless Ah Mahs on the roadside keep flagging you down. And another Merc in same color (black, silver, white) cuts in front of you to steal your "customer".

I love Merc - but its a crime what they have done to the E series Singapore!

can ask what is deemed as a 'proper' E series if SG version is not good..

I never said its not good or proper. Its an excellent car! in my family we have over 5 or 6 different E class from the late 70s onward to W210 in 1996 when the waiting list was 9 months and it cost 250k for the base model. That was the final straw from many loyal followers, when the taxis came out.

Its an excellent car! in my family we have over 5 or 6 different E class from the late 70s onward to W210 in 1996 when the waiting list was 9 months and it cost 250k for the base model. not sure why ppl are converned about merc for offering its cars as taxis. if the local taxi companies are willing to pay a premium for mercs being part of their fleet of taxis, will merc turn down a business opportunity like that?

similarly in germany mercs are commonly used as cabs and the E class is the most highly acclaimed taxis amongst its peers. does this make it any less desirable or less of a car?

I think BMW's engineering is technically superior in terms of engine, drivetrain, suspension, steering.... not the electronic gizmo that Merc always comes up with and usually have a ton of problems that require frequent visits to the dealership zzz. Those who share my experiences with Merc cars will know i guess :roll:

i think in terms of comfort levels, the merc is a notch above the bimmer. no dispute in the steering and handling dept even for the new E class.

one thing i feel merc has an edge over bimmer is the build quality.
