Re: leaving cars out in the sun.... what bad does it do to the paint?

UV is bad for paintwork......

Re: leaving cars out in the sun.... what bad does it do to the paint?

kenn, what effect will it cause? will it cause the paint to turn yellowish

Re: leaving cars out in the sun.... what bad does it do to the paint?

i heard that conti cars paintwork is better than japanese..that's why the latter one will turn yellowish faster..if both cars put under sun for same amount of time..

for white cars..better to play safe and not put under sun for too long..daily suntan is a no-no..

Hi Terry,

From the mouth of my ride's groomer... yes it will..... but not just from the sun....baking your ride increases the speed of oxidisation too.

Plus your cabin's plush plush leather will be affected

Re: leaving cars out in the sun.... what bad does it do to the paint?

shit... ok.... im going down to move my car into the garage now.... yellowing paint is my biggest fear

Re: leaving cars out in the sun.... what bad does it do to the paint?

Good Sealant may slow down the oxidixation and UV effects considerably.... but have to use consistantly

Cheers

Re: leaving cars out in the sun.... what bad does it do to the paint?

Also not forgetting the windscreen rubber wiper - will harden - fast and needs changing.... as it will be prone to spliting... and if use rain-x -worse still!

Lucky our rides other than maroon, hopefully should not use organic pigments. For example, most Yellow and Red cars (may be using) organic pigments and the colours will fade (oxidize faster) ...... under UV light.

Cabin plus leather may not be affected that much if one uses a good quality tint that helps to reduce UV to a minimium.

Anything rubber....will be affected bad... but maybe conti car use better rubber lor... can last a little longer. Still, its not safe lah...

Frankly, rubber is rubber. And there is no good, better best rubber. Rubber chemical is same for both conti and japan. Unless you are talking about tires which have added cocktail of secret recipies that include things like silicone.

Some people, bother to raise the windscreen wiper blades away from the glass - much like those washers that indicate that your car had been washed...

Thus, rubber in Japan, China, South Africa, Europe comes from one plant = rubber plant.

Yup bro.... in any case.... not good for rubber to be expose to sun for too long.... be it conti or jap

If you remove your cats, the oxidation will occur even quicker. White and black are the worst colors to maintain.

Your CSI vehicle is white?

Re: leaving cars out in the sun.... what bad does it do to the paint?

The paint will lose its shine if the car is exposed to rain, sun, wind, sand, etc everyday and continuously for a long period of time.
If we leave our cars out in the open, it is not only the sun that harms the car. Many other factors do too.

Cars that are always parked indoors can maintain their shine for a longer period.

Ok, no technical jargon to explain how the above happens.

Btw,, Terry, you want to comment on the differences between lubber?

not true lah. rubber in its raw form is the same everywhere. but the rubber will have to be treated and processed. hence the different quality of rubber.

Likewise for diamonds. in its raw form its just a rock. but when treated and nurtured its potential is limitless. not all diamonds are the same. some 1 karat, some 24 karat.

UV rays are harmful to your paintwork and a good amount of healthy clear coat is the only key to absorb the UV rays to slow down oxidation. i.e white to yellow, red to pink, black to grey.. Sealant and wax maker has include a little UV absorbtion element in it but it is not significant enough to prevent the UV attack and it is rather more for marketing purposes. However, they are very important in protecting ur clear coat from other pollutant attack like rain etc.

When ur car is out in the sun, the panel can easily go up to 100+ degree, and heat act as a catalyst to speed up the pollutant that falls on your car. Imagine bird dropping at ph 4.5 and acid rain at ph4-6 when bake under the sun, it is like heating acid on your clearcoat which explain why they etch in and damage them so fast. Hope tt helps..
