Hi All,

Sorry for asking this question, I went through the threads that I could find related to non - RFT on whether there is a need to reset the TPMS via the iDrive each time I pump air into my non run flat tyres. Some said yes, others - well.. the question was not really answered.

Would appreciate if someone could please help with this, thank you.

Rdgs,
Erika

hi, you will still need to do a tyre pressure reset, whether RFTs or not.

Just remember that the sensors sense sudden changes and differences in air pressure between the tires. This is something that affects all sorts of tires, not just RFTs. So yes you must reset your monitor.

My ride no iDrive so I use the BC stalk, very straightforward 20 second job.

yes, everytime you do something to your wheel you are advisable to re set it.
computer is actually very stupid one.
you have to update her the changes otherwise she sence any diff from previous data.
she will prompt you.:woottt:

Re: E60 - Non RFT need to reset Tyre pressure?

The RFT system works by monotoring the exact wheel speeds at each corner and if there is a distinct difference in 1 tire moving more faster than the rest then it chimes the tire flat warning. To account for normal wear, i.e. rear tires wearing out more than the front, it keeps a rolling memory and allows a slow drift of tire speeds around something like 0.2-0.3% per month. (this figure seems small but when you compare the rolling circumference difference of a new tire vs a worn tire is only 2%)

There is no tire pressure sensor within the rims to feed the pressure real time.

So please reset your tire pressure system every time your top up your tire pressures or rotate your tires. RFT of normal tires are all the same.

Cheers

hahaha... this is exactly what happened to me on the first day when I received my car. Everything was properly done and reset but dunno why the dong dong dong thingy keep appearing. Then I created a hooha and called my SE in the middle of the night....

In the end, the technical dept advised me to come out of the car, locked it.. wait for 1 min... then went in again... and the problem was resolved. Till today I also dunno why it behaved like that. Funny...

the morale of the story is.... a complicated electronic system (I was impressed with the BMW's system) comes with a price. :)
