E60 LCI reverse gear problem

Hi,

I have a 07 E60 LCI with the new gear shift.

I find that sometimes I engage the reverse gear, the car stays in "D". I have to do engage it again for it to go into "R". Sometimes I have to repeat a 3rd time.

During the service, PML has "reprogrammed" it, and the problem still exists.

Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

Thanks

Me having same problem too. I thought it was just me not pressing the gear button hard enough sometimes, so the gear didn't shift.

Re: E60 LCI reverse gear problem

I am having the same problem too. But when i let my SA know about it they told me that i must not have engaged it properly and whne changing gears i am supposed to look at the small display near the sppedometer etc to check whether the gear i wanna engage has been engaged.:(

I find this problem a bit dangerous cause when for ex: if u think u hav engaged into reverse from drive and if u re too close to the car infront and if reverse has not been engaged u might just end up hitting into the car infront.

Re: E60 LCI reverse gear problem

i noticed it too but I belevie the reason it does not engage R is because you are not completely stationary. In this case it stay in D or moves to N but does not engage "r" I have had it a couple of times. However it never happens if hte the car is still. If oyu notice that the R is not engaged even when stationary, then it will be an issue. I am monitoring this point as well.

Re: E60 LCI reverse gear problem

Common prob...

Drive back to PML and tell them reprogramming doesn't work... They will change something to do with the gear and will be better after that... One day job...

I got mine done last month...

Cheers!

ME TOO! Actually theres another issue which i initially tot it was a problem but e SA explained tat its actually a new safety feature. If ur not on yr seat belt wif e dr open n goin reverse, e gear wil jump to "P". Bcos sumtime to prevent scratchin my rims while reverse parkin, i'll remove my seat belt, open e dr n look back while reserving. E gear wil jump to "P". This is normal. It could be another safety feature to tat...

Wow, initially, I hated the new gear shift's look. After I tried it, I loved it.... but didn't know of such problems until now. Yeah, when I reverse, sometimes, I open the door to make sure my rims don't get nicked.... oh well, I still like the new gearshift type....

Re: E60 LCI reverse gear problem

Yeah i get this same problem too .... Happened quite a number of times already, just have to be very careful when parking, if not will hit the car in front of you if you assumed you have already engaged R when its still in D ....

Oh i really hate that auto switch to P mode when u remove seat belts and open door to reverse, i always do that on my pre-LCI E60 and now i have to keep my seat belts on and open the door instead, its certainly not as comfy especially with that growing mid-section :)

Re: E60 LCI reverse gear problem

Sent my car in for servicing today and fedback about this problem.

SA says they will change my electronic gearshift but this also involves reprogramming the software - which will take a day or two, although they will try to finish it within a day. So I'll be sending my car in again next week to get this done.

FYI for all bros who have this problem. Will update again after the gearshift has been replaced, on whether the problem has been solved once and for all.
