if you do not use approved engine oil, the car can go sideway. parallel parking is a piece of cake by then

Re: Approved Engine Oils for BMW

Oh good. I am glad that LiquiMoly products made the list. The best oil I've used ever. You even feel your engine running smoother.

Don't understand how anything from Castrol made it there though. Someone at Castrol must've paid BMW a LOT of money.

Still, I'm wondering, do we have high sulphur petrol or low sulphur petrol here in Singapore?

Singapore petrol sulphur contain should be much higher than Europe.
But in this region (Asia), our should be the best, maybe except Japan.

Just curious, how did you ascertain that? I'm wondering whether it is as high as the US.

just to share this article with you
http://www.carbibles.com/viscosity.html

but basically for engine oil, if you are using the wrong viscosity, your engine will have to work harder if it too thick, and if it is too thin, it will wear out and not protect the engine.

if you are uncomfortable with your current engine oil, just drain it and change it to an appropriate one..

hope this helps.

One more property to look at is the oil's film strength, example http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8dEFGJqpCMY#!

Oil film helps to prevent metal to metal contact. The shear strength of oil film is tested using Timken Load Rating. If you do some research, you maybe shocked to discover what you paid for may not be what you get.
