Aircon not cold

I had a weird problem with the aircon recently which I hope you can help.

I was driving to KL (NSH) at 4am. After about 2 hours of driving the aricon fan speed suddently reduced and the aircom temperature started to rise. Had to endure this until I reached KL. Parked the car overnight and the aircon was back to normal. It was normal all the back back to Singapore too.

Strange, perhaps bros can advise what is wrong. Suspect the aircon compressor is too cold/iced up.

Thanks much.

Re: Aircon not cold

The last that something like that happened to me, mech told me that it was due to aircon freezing up. Did you perform any bypass mod or something on your aircon system?

On my previous ride, the thermostat was bypassed - so only cool air will enter cabin. During my drive on the NS highway, due to the high and constant speed, the aircon pipe froze up. Same thing, after I stopped for awhile, aircon back to normal...

Re: Aircon not cold

nect time, try turning up the heat when aircon not cold... I know, it sounds counter intuitive, but I think it should help to unfreeze something... Haha

Re: Aircon not cold

My car is original, no mods of any form. Is there anyway I can prevent this?

Re: Aircon not cold

Small problem would be not enough aircon gas (or too much aircon gas pumped in)....just refill gas can liao (or release gas and pump correct amount)

Major problem would be compressor going to up lorry soon (thats gonna cost you a hole)

Re: Aircon not cold

It could also be your fan getting weak. If it kaputs ur car might experience overheat.

Re: Aircon not cold

Could be the relay issue too..........(intermitten)

cheers

Re: Aircon not cold

I did experienced it before. Till now tired to find out what is the cause to the sudden reduce of aircon speed. But there is one occasion when I stopped my car for awhile. I adjust my aircon speed again. It back to normal. But it does not hold onto the speed for long.

Re: Aircon not cold

Im having this issue now.

Happened after i replaced a brand new compressor. Ive been told its becos of freezing and my thermal relay is spoilt. Changed a new thermal relay, but problem still persisted... Dunno what to do next.

Maybe release the gas and retop up and see how it goes.... Sian..

Re: Aircon not cold

No point release & retop up again. I did it before but problem till persist.

Re: Aircon not cold

Jialat! Today after parking my pfl-e90 under the hot hot sun for the afternoon, the aircon suddenly not cold! Only very-very-very-slightly cooled air was blowing out of the aircon vents and fan was a max speed (aircon speed set to auto).... In the evening, when it's cooled, the aircon become somewhat cooler, but still not quite cold. Took it to a local aircon shop in ubi and refilled the gas + oil. According to the guy there, it's time to change my aircon coil. Sianz....

Was quoted $850 +GST for replacement.

Anyone here has similar experience? What else apart from the coil would require replacement. My '06 ride is at about 100k now...

$ob, $ob$....

I replaced my aircon coils for $1200 recently. $850 cannot be original BMW coils. Make sure you confirm this otherwise you may regret after a few months. Non-original coils, I was told, will give trouble after those few months.

Changed at Moto-aire? Price about right!

The workshop was T****a. I thought I heard the guy mention that it's original coil leh. I didn't even ask him OEM or compatible; but he volunteered and said, "BMW must change using original coil. Coz compatible coils will give problems rather quickly." So I guess since he said that, it must be original lor...

Re: Aircon not cold

Well, actually, I'm still monitoring the aircon situation. It's now super cold after I've topped up refrigerant and oil. The aircon technician couldn't detect any R134a leak using this handheld tool that he had.

I'm praying hard for now for not requiring a replacement (yet) as I've got other stuff to take care of for now.... $$$

It's been more than a week now, and so far so good *fingers crossed*

You will know it's a goner if you have a chemical smell in the cabin.

I was looking out for tell tale signs - chemical smell, oily aircon vents, lowered cooling efficiency, oil mixture in the aircon condensation water..... so far nothing...

Re: Aircon not cold

yes, agree as I tried that, no effect at all when my compressor was kaput = only wasting money. need to change watever is necessary to make it run properly.
