iDrive Sports Display

if you code your idrive to activate the sports display (ie: f30, f10), it displays horsepower (hp) and torque (nm)

based on factory specs n20 320/520 has 184bhp/270nm and n20 328/528 has 245bhp/350nm

i suspect whether it is piggyback or hardware mods like downpipe/intake/exhaust if the ecu is coded (locked mode) with factory max hp/nm, that's the max power the engine can produce, right?

what i want to know is those who had 'juice up' their ride, does your sports display, display increase of hp/nm above factory specs?
especially with the tuner piggyback that publish their generous gain in hp/nm and what about hardware mods like downpipes/intake/exhaust with no piggback to ecu ... is there any increase in hp/nm?

Re: iDrive Sports Display

I don't believe the sports display output "actual" number, from what I've seen & heard, most likely it is calibrated to stock engine output and accelerator position. Of course if you go for M-Performance Pack(?), then the sport display also get recalibrated... other tuner, no luck...

Re: iDrive Sports Display

No it doesn't change the scales on the display. I have a 335i with the M Performance Power Kit. As part of the coding for the PPK the scales on the display changed from 230kw/400Nm to 245kw/450Nm.

It's a simple gauge and not terribly accurate I think, more a driver feel good factor.

This sports display is based off throttle position. It works differently from. The Apexi RSM with g meter which quite accurately shows the whp.

With a flash, it is possible to refine the scale like how the PPK for 335 works. But just a representation of the throttle position.

Re: iDrive Sports Display

thanks for all the replies
i turn on the sport display for a couple of days and i notice i hardly touch 100hp and i often max out the torque. this means any mod that i embark, torque improvement is upmost critical. high horsepower is useless for city driving, no?

High HP is useless for city driving......

That's why diesel is good, low bhp, but very high torque

Re: iDrive Sports Display

When you have torque, you will have horsepower. Cannot run away from each other, unless it is at very low or very high rpm...

Wt_know driving what now? Hearsay n20 tunes quite well...but I heard from one n55 bro his tuning box didn't increase power...

Anyway, most tuning boxes are few hundred dollar only. Install and try loh. Don't like can take out, but I doubt you will...

My guess is that the factory knows what the torque is for any given rpm and throttle position. Those curves are in the car and the HP is simply a calculated value. Torque X RPM/5252. So in a given car the meters should be approximately accurate. The neat thing about the M340i is the addition of boost pressure read out and also oil temperature, all the above displayed along with the 360 degree “g” meter. So watch it all closely before you crash. Or video it if you’d rather not, the sport display and tach/speedo. Or just drive and enjoy and forget about the data, except the very useful oil temperature! So logically any mods made will not be reflected, no matter how really effective they are.

needs to be written into the flash tune.only for fun not accurate

From my experience with my 2015 330i LCI. The iDrive sport display hp/nm does not increase more than the factory specs. This is what i did to notice that very well. I keep the sport display on 2/3 of the screen and have the nav map on the other 1/3. Makes the screen a useful feature. It is really too big for just a nav map, as I have turns displayed on the dash and HUD display if I am navigating anywhere.
