Xenon Headlight Adjustment

I like to seek help if anyone knows how to Adjust the direction of the headlights (Hoizontal adjustment). I already know how to adjust up/down with the alan key. My ride is E60 LCI.

I find that my left hand xenon light direction is pointed way too left and would like to adjust it to face directly in front as I can imagine people sitting at bus stops must be cursing and swearing coz my headlight direction is pointed directly at them whenever my car passby. Glare from Xenon is &$^%@#.....

I had send in my car in to PML at Alexandra for adjustment before. But, after 1 full day of adjustment, it appears to be the same. Still very left pointed...

Can any advice me how I can DIY the adjustment?

Thanks.

Re: Xenon Headlight Adjustment

here is wot I learnt from the 5 series forum. the screw nearer the outer side is for lateral adjustment. The screw nearer the centre is for vertical adjustment.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried it so if anything breaks pls don't blame me. Do report back if it works.

Cheers!

DPG, I remember reading somewhere that RHD cars shine slightly more to the left, and LHD cars shine more to the right. This is to prevent glaring the oncoming traffic, so it might be better not to adjust them. The vertical height should be auto adjust by the car based on the load right?

Hi,

Thanks for the advise.

It's actually just my left headlight that I find is way too left. i'm sure it'll be very glaring to pedestrian and especially people sitting at the bus stops. I don't think it is right to cause discomfort to others. I'm sure nobody likes having glaring Xenon shining directly into the eyes.

As for the vertical height, I had dipped it slightly as it used to be quite high. Although it give me further distance view with higher height setting, cars infront of me would be blinded. Not all cars have dimming rear and side mirrors. Afterall, local driving condition is quite well illuminated. So, I don't need the long range. If situation requires, high beam can be used.

Re: Xenon Headlight Adjustment

so it is normal to have a difference in shine distance for left and right headlights ?

From what I know, the xenons in LCI have the auto height adjust mechanism, meaning that if your car is fully loaded, the lights will shine higher, and if you're driving alone, the lights will shine lower. So I don't think you'll need to adjust them, unless they are faulty of course.

As to your left light shining extremely left, did you change the headlight or something? Such misalignments shouldn't happen.

Didn't really notice if there's a difference in my car. If I remember correctly, both lights shine SLIGHTLY more to the left, so the shine distance should be about the same.

Some time ago, I wanted to buy xenons for my the other ride from ebay taken out from a LHD car, and the seller very steady told me not to buy cos LHD and RHD are different.

The only change I made is the DS2 Light bulb to 6000K from 4300K. But even after sending the car to PML for a day to adjust, it still point left. alot. :verysad: that's why I'm thinking of adjusting myself.

I've changed mine too, no problem after changing. I think you can send to BVO or J4C, they should know how to adjust them. Or you can try DIY yourself. Good luck!

only the older model 5series uses D2S, all the newer models uses D1S, but you can "manually" adjust your xenons, many have done this on their BMW's back in the states

my input: firstly, did anyone notice for each (left n right) xenon ray onto e wall, there s an image of "Z" shone onto it. meaning e left s somewat higher than e right. u can see tis more clearly when yr car s shining at e wall, n u walk down to cover either headlamp, then u ll know wat i mean.

e top "line" of e "Z" s higher than e lower "line" of e same "Z". so as long as yr both (left n right) top lines of tat "Z" meet, then u r perfectly fine alr.

yes, pedestrians or busstops may e slightly affected. but no choice, tis s e way its manufactured.

enjoy guys! i jus did mine sort of "perfect" to my satisfaction.:woottt:
