Would you buy another BMW?

Hi guys,

Being a potential (first time) buyer of BMW, I would like to raise the following questions:

1. are BMWs reliable? - is it a climate thing? or a PML thing?
2. for those who currently own BMWs, how is your experience with the car and servicing (by PML)? - generally, I hear negative comments about this.
3. I am looking at a 5 series, I know the exterior is nice, the interior is so-so and the drive and engine is superb. BUT, what I can't stand about the car is the key (vs the 3 and 7 series fob) and the rear air con vents.

Basically, what I'm asking is, would you recommend the purchase of a 5 series? Good experience or horror stories to share etc....

Thanks.....

P.S I understand that this is a BMW forum.....

Re: Would you buy another BMW?

I rather like the 5 series so I have nothing bad to say about it. All cars will have their problems but should not be anything too serious. As for the service... well there are always other shops to bring your car too.

Re: Would you buy another BMW?

I definitely would.

I have owned a 3 and now a 5, owning another BMW would be something that I would do in the future.

All cars have their share of problems, if you want absolute reliability, I think Toyota (and Jap in general) would be a good choice.

My experience with PML has been average, personally I think it has got to do with one's expectation. I am into a little bit of DIY so sometimes I solve my own minor problem with the car.

I agree with you KT.... got to do with one's expectation.. My experience with PML after sales service is way below average.

Thenew7, follow yr heart.. test drive the car and judge.. Basing on the huge amount of bimmers around today and the number growing strong, owning one is a good choice as far as the machine is concern.... :) :)

Sold my E46 about a year ago due water tank problems but this year, bought another BM. So, YES!

Have 2 Mitsubishi serviced by C&C and they sucks. Worst than PML

The 5 series is great in it's class. No worries about PML. You'll only need them after 25,000km

Get the car if you like it and build the relationship with PML after sales. Stay in touch with the rest of the e60 sg owners and your potential problems will be painless.

For me, after establishing such relationship, getting another bimmer is no brainer. If I were to switch to mb or other marques I will have second thoughts of the drag of starting over again. I always believe after sales story are the same any where you go on higher end continental cars.

Click the link in my signature and you can learn all you want to learn about the 5 series in sg and the world. Join the rest of the e60 owners here to get advice before you plunge in.

Re: Would you buy another BMW?

Haha... My previous BMW broke down after 1 week of ownership. Spent about 30-40% of my ownership in the car workshop.... But when I returned to Singapore I still bought one!

Re: Would you buy another BMW?

Drivability with the BMW ain't an issue.... it is with some of the parts they use..... and of course, the breakdown rate.....

It is a lovely car to drive.... especially for people like me, who likes corners......

The key thing is an issue for me.... I suppose following the 3 series lead, they will eventually get rid of keys and move on to fobs......

Anyone had any experience with PI 5 series????

Thanks....

Wat did u hear abt the maserati after sales? I understand them to be quite good cos they're servicing a small community.

BMW on the other hand....my aftersales experience has been less than pleasant. And that seems to be the general consensus. Love the drive. But the car can be taken to other places. As MRacer77 said.

Wow... tough choice... but it is two totally different cars..... The BMW is more main stream...., the maserati, more exclusive.... Both are probably excellent cars in their own right..... both will turn heads....and set hearts beating.....

Damn I wish I were in your shoes....

Anyway, the Quattroporte, which is probably not in your choice is nice.....

Re: Would you buy another BMW?

maserati after sales??? The absolute best in the whole world. Their world class service makes up for their lousy cars

wah RB, u beginning to dislike your Qporte?

Re: Would you buy another BMW?

the italians never make a quality car. it's a fact. i've owned 2 M-cars. They both suck. But the after sales..... mmmmmm number 1!!

as for BMW, i've never had good experience with their after sales, my unit breaks down pretty often (in fact at this very moment, my car is left in Tanglin Mall carpark coz it cannot start. I took taxi home). But it still remains a fact that BMW cars have the best combination in the DNA of a car:

1) Good quality branding, in the conti range
2) RWD
3) heavy emphasis on chassis development and handling
4) good aftermarket mod potentials.
5) one of the best sports dept in car manufacturing (M dept, as compared to say AMG, Audi RS, Alfa GTA series, Volvo T series, etc)

If i'm in the market for a conti exec car which is genuinely sporty, i'll still go for BMW.

I were deciding between 630coupe and Porsche Boxster. Finally bought the 630 as I were buying a car and not the after sales service. Anyway, the pre and post sales services have been good so far (touch wood)

Further, I totally agreed with Racebred about the DNA. At least the 630 is a 2+2 meaning I don't have to leave my kids behind everytime I take the car for a spin

Re: Would you buy another BMW?

Its the damn aftersales service......

Din noe that Maserati is huge? When u say its huge is in regards to the ext size of the car in comparison or interior????
Din compare paper specs but on actual, 645 anytime looks bigger.

I will go for 645 anytime if i dun track and get a Maserati as 2nd car.. that if i can afford.
