My brake pad light came on last night.
How urgently do I need to change them?
I am also thinking of getting aftermarket brake pads for replacement.
Does anyone have any good pads to recommend?
(Not the sanitary ones of course.... )
Any idea whether any low dust pads available for BMWs?
I was asking for Mintex low dust pads when I changed my rear brake pads but was told that these were not available locally for my car ( E65 ).

With your warning light coming on, it's best to replace brake pads soonest. I delayed mine last time, and in the end had to change the rotors too as the worn pads scatched the rotors.
You will also need to change the sensor cable since too since it is already worn when the light come on (quite cheap). For brake pads, I agreed with the recommendation of Bendix Ultimate - reasonable price, good braking performance and less dusty than stocks. BTW, I am using Bendix Ultimate with stock rotors.
can cars under warranty go for aftermarket brake pads without running foul of the warranty?
if so are the usual "aftermaket solution providers" (BVO, J4C etc) able to reset the error messages cleanly without any complications ?

Dude, not the warranty for the whole car, but areas related to brakes.
Can be quite complicated, better check with your advisor.
To me, brakes and tyres are the most important thing in the car.
These are the last things i would want to save money on.
Better don't wait until you are free if the warning is there.

goodness ! so its only tires, rims and wiper upgrades for now I suppose. this is the most finicky warranty I've heard of, but i guess it helps cos of the 'fragile' nature of BMW's.
