Renault's Yeni (Logan) is a joint venture between Renault/Nissan and top Indian vehicle maker Tata Motors. Another budget car to compete with TATA and FIAT 500. New Delhi and Mumbai will be seeing more of these cars instead of bicycles on the roads.

Cost? S$4,800 !!!

Group buy, anyone?

It's India's 1 lakh car, which roughly works out to ard S$5k.

The Tata Rs One Lakh car - Habib Motors Sitara

Tata Motors Developing 1-Lakh car for India | NextBillion.net - Development Through Enterprise

Tata announced the project a while ago, and there's been a lot of interest from the incumbents (Suzuki Maruti et al) who have big market share in India to do the same.

The 1 lakh car will just be a bit more expensive than the motorbike modified tuk tuk like vehicles and they believe this will be the tipping point for widescale adoption of cars in India. It's the second largest population in the world so the stakes are high.

Suspension is going to be optimized for crappy Indian roads and dirt roads. May not be ideal for city streets.

Re: World's Cheapest Car - Renault Yeni

at least we know there'll be no leather in the car...

but i wonder if the roads in india are as bad as they are in sydney...
