Whiteline Sway Bar

Did not see any model for bmw in this website. I dun suppose they have for E46?
 
Hey guys's I've got a reply from Whiteline already. They do have Sway bars for the E46 sedan and coupe. Apparently they replied saying that both sedan and coupes are using the same sway bars. I've got the reply from them saying it costs AUD$250 (inc GST) retail. However the price is definitely gonna be much lower (guess they'll be excluding the GST which is about 10% and maybe another 10% for group buy?) if there is an order of at least 5 and above. Are there any other bros out there who wanna try this product? Its fully adjustable as well.

bara: I think you should go under product search. Then type in key words like "bmw sway bar" should get the info there!

I think for sway bars, the following are crucial info:

(1) thickness, front & rear
(2) how many ways adjustable, front & rear
(3) material used

If not, it's hard to judge based on price alone.

Yup I agree with you dude! Which is why I feel going to the website and picking for yourself to see which one would suit you the most. As for some details that are not found on the web page, I just wrote it on a piece of paper and faxed it to them hoping to get a reply soon.

Btw does any other bros out there have comments on Whiteline products? Maybe could enlighten me and other bros out there who might be interested in finding out more too :) :) :)
 
Oops, I missed out on the link you gave in your first post. Went there, downloaded the PDF file, and found the following info:

(1) thickness: 27mm front, 20mm rear
(2) adjustable & non-adjustable bars, front & rear, both available; but never say how many ways adjustable
(3) at quick glance, could not find anything about material used

yep whiteline was one of the brands i considered some time back. it is indeed rather cheap.

what is the material used for the bushings?

and looking at the thickness, i would say whiteline sway bars will retain the inherent understeery nature of the e46.

By the way, I've always wanted to ask this: when a bar is adjustable, the adjustment holes are such that you vary the "length" of the bar; what has this got to do with the thickness of the bar?

PU is good. last longer, but may be a little less comfy or make a bit of sound. just make sure while installing you grease it up generously as you would an unwilling sex partner.

if the bar is thicker, then it's harder to bend and so the rating of the sway bar is stiffer loh.

What I meant was, suppose this is a bar:

When you use the holes to adjust, you vary the "length" of the bar (i.e. left to right) while the thickness (i.e. top to bottom) remains the same. So if thickness = stiffness, seems like we're not adjusting stiffness; then what're we adjusting?
 
when you shorten the bar, you also make it stiffer mah. both these factors affect stiffness.

The way it works is like this

Say the Front sway bar, theory No:
1) The thickness of a bar makes it harder to bend hence you will find that the car corners tighter and flatter. We all know that.. :)

2) As far as the holes..this allows for fine tuning of the bar in terms of its effect on your car's balance by modifying the effective stiffness of the bar.
For eg. Say 2 holes front,....the hole closest to the tip of the ARB will be what we call the softer setting while the inner one is for the harder(stiffer) setting.
A stiffer setting of the FRONT ARB will increase Understeer while the softer one will increase Oversteer.

So, there is an adjustment and it's there for you to play with to make effective use of the thicker bar to suit your driving style..

Let's say 2 holes in front. If I put to outer (softer) setting, will the inner hole (by being a hole) also contribute to less stiffness in the bar as a result? I think should right?
 
it's not so sensitive lah... anyway at the ends of the ARB where the holes are housed, the hollow bar flattens out and doesn become part of the flexing element of the whole bar anymore. :)

I think that is because when you adjust your ARB to the hard setting, the bar becomes too stretched to the limit when cornering and in this scenario, you need to steer more to corner amid the tighter steering feel. This is what I feel in my ride. However, with my recent upgrade to coilover susp set up, the handling and steering feedback become very sharp and responsive.
Having done all that, it's the tires issue now that I need to work on a bit...

Seems quite difficult to look for aftermkt ARB for W211 at this stage
U might wish to check out some tuning houses like AMG, Carlsson, Lorinser from local distributors to see if they can bring em in..

Hi. i am from the classics forum. two weeks ago when i was in sydney i met up with an independent bmw specialist who recommended whiteline and advised that actually they will make to order any bar you wish. the prices look good though some people just fit original M3 bars (apparently similar price). To reduce understaeer some just increased thickness of rear bar and left the front alone. i was looking for a set for my e34. Actually, i was amazed by the number of imported used bmw's from asia i saw there. Even wondered if they came from singapore. sure looked like it.
