Re: Where is 3 series manufactured?

If this statement is true, then what does the picture I took mean? This ID plate was found on the underside of the bonnet and my ride was a Sep 06 build 320i. Furthermore, the 1st 3 alphabets of my chassis number is WBA where W means Germany. Go look up VIN decoder.
So, is my 320i made in Germany or South Africa?
Having the words "BMW, Munchen Germany" does not mean that its made in Germany.
There are so many products like that.
Picardi, Germany are made in China.
Sony, Japan are made in China, unless otherwise stated.
When I buy anything, I will always insist to see the actual words spelt out "Made in Germany".
For the 318i, I can see that on the driver-side B-pillar sticker, that clearly states Made in Germany.
But not on the 320i and upward models - which is confirmed by PML to be produced in BMW's African factory.
As for the VIN, this has been widely discussed in the US forums.
My X3 has a VIN that begins with WBA, but everyone knows that pre-2010 X3s are only built by Magna Steir in Austria and nowhere else in the world. The X3 models before 2006 has got VINs that spell out their Austrian origins, but for whatever reason, BMW changed X3 VINs from 2006 onward to start with WBA ..... implying that its made in Germany - which we all know is incorrect ..... a legal misrepresentation even. Like I said, surf through some of the US forums on BMW VINs and this is quite widely discussed.
BTW, my X3 also has that BMW, Munchen, Germany sticker under the bonnet lid. But its definitely not made in Germany.
I can confirm that your 320i sedan is made in Africa, not Germany. You may write in to PML to get a second opinion, but that is really a fact.
The last German-made 3-er sedans brought into SG were the first batch E46s. Since then, the remaining E46s were from Africa. Only the Ci (coupes) then were from Germany.
For the E90 series, it began with African made in the first place. It only changed when PML brought in the 318i model later, but this has got to do with distribution and supply chain efficiency (what I was told by PML), since Singapore is one of the few markets getting an RHD 318i ... which their Rosalynn factory in Africa does not produce.
Sorry to disappoint you.
