u might wana tink twice abt rim protector as they might cause you a double or wourse still, triple whammy situation. I remembered a fellow forummer install those, curbed the protector as well as the rim. At the same time, the 1/2 the total length of protector gave way but still stuck at the rim (cos the protector is secured by the steel rim of the tyre, not easy to yank out) , causing it to rub and scratch against the fender / body paintwork when the vehicle is moving.......so end of the day, the forummer got to repair the rim, touchup the fender / body paintwork and replace the protector (dunno he did the last one though)....and mind you, the protector comes in a set of 4, u cant jus buy one to replace the bruised one. The cost of each piece is a tab bit more ex for you to bring to any paintshop to do touchup on the rim......so, pretty LPPL imho. Cheers

Yeah i was intially considering the rim protector but after seeing what happened i decided against it. May cause more headache.

Re: Where got sell Rims protector?

I didn't do it cos it looked ugly and my rims are expensive and classy..must show off

Re: Where got sell Rims protector?

installing the protector if same colour as your rim makes it looks slightly bigger

I read about that too and was concerned. But I went ahead and installed it anyway. And I'm glad I did cause there are already quite a few scuff marks on the rim protector but not on my rims (thankfully).... I guess one of the ways to prevent the protector from coming out of its groove is to check it periodically, and if you find that it is out of place, then send back to tyre shop to put it back.

after golilok washes them with his saliva first

Re: Where got sell Rims protector?

Just let the CO scratch the rims. Perfect excuse to change/upgrade later on.

Well, i'm sure most bro here cant stand the sight of curb rashes, be it on the rims itself or the protector....i mean, i'm sure its not fine by you to see a undamaged rim but with curb rashes all over your protector ya....i know i cant..... Sure, the protector delivered as promised but isnt good clean aesthetic an important factor to begin with ?

And by replacing the protector, the cost and downtime is as good as sending it to traditional rim touchup, so any added advantages here? You are spending $$ in hope to save $$ but the facts remain that you will not have any significant advantages over the stock setup. On contrary, you are potentially exposing yourself to circumstances that may cause you to lose more $$ i.e. the triple whammy.

To end it off, my 2cents is tis....if uve bought it, enjoy it......if you have yet to, then dun bother....peace out

Worst i've kena and repair is ard 1/5 of rim circumference (or slightly shorter), damage is $40. including sanding, putty, sand to smooth / even surface and spot respray. Downtime abt 3hrs.

mask.....no rim / tyre will be taken out.

Re: Where got sell Rims protector?

Agree with het as well. We want protect the rim becos we like the rim design in the first place...be it the chrome lip,etc..so nice to look at..if put rim protector, then it essentially change the whole outlook of the 'nice design' in the first place which made us want to protect it..so if its protected and 'covered up' by something in place of its original clean look...then cant really see the beauty in the first place..so then why need to protect it leh?

Ya..i know...paradox.... ;)

But, no offence intended..just a thought...

You are right on the aesthetic part but unless you purchase a different color to your rims, from a distance, you can't tell the difference, and it provides protection.

On a separate note, touching up your rims is no where as good as the original. I have touched up my previous rims more than 10 times in my previous car and after a while, the paint chips off the rims, no where as good as the original though after the touch up, it looks nice.

To each his own, from my personal experience, I would recommend it, especially for those who can't stand the sight of curb rashes. Of course if you hit the curb at speed or continually scrape the same part, it will probably give way.
