I'm looking through the popular SG car website, to buy an E92 Coupe, and I realise that there is only ONE listing for a manual car. There are over 50 (I stopped counting), for automatics.
Every time BMW announces that a car's gonna be made fully automatic, I hear a lot of people voicing their displeasure, but then still, given the choice between auto and manual, they pick auto. Even a semi-automatic - the SMG wasn't well received when announced on paper, until they noticed that on the most aggressive setting, it shifts quicker than a person. But the SMG isn't really automatic. It's an assisted shifter. You still have the choice to override it and make the selections yourself. So it became accepted gradually.
Yes, I know that there are some people who'd prefer an automatic because of the convenience. If you're a 50yo man with 2 kids screaming in the back, and are more into the car for it's luxury status, sure, by all means get an automatic. I just find it impossible to believe that there really are such a small number of people who actually still want the feeling of "Driving" their car, instead of just guiding it. And of all makes... BMWs - the ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE.
So over 90% of the people drive an automatic, and these are the people who then want lighter rims, and better gripping tires? Who want aerodynamic kits to improve the handling? These are the people who then bring their cars to track?!?
That is quite sad....
