Not sure abt the brands but alot of guys with run-flats on their e60s are hoping to switch to normal tyres when their run-flats wear out. They find run-flats heavy and noisy.
thanks T6, but the e60s have boot space for a spare... i don't!!!
but its nice knowing that there are heavy and noisy... will take that into consideration!!!

One of the better runflat is the Dunlop SP9000 DSST as it is the lightest and least harsh runflat. From what I know, most of the Z and MINI drivers change to normal tire as far as possible. They just carry a tire repair kit for emergency.

In case you are still looking for a space saving alternative for the spare tyre, check this lastest tyre repair kit. It comes with an fast aircompressor and a Dunlop tire sealant, weighing abt 2 kg and size of a A4 paper. I've tried it and it works. http://sg.geocities.com/richardn28/tirerepair.jpg
It certainly looked very cool ( A4 size) ! what is the price? and any info on the 6 easy steps? more info on this repair kit are very welcome as it certainly looked good and useful too.....currently running on Runflat tyres and cannot wait to replace with Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres....like the rest said, it is quite noisy and I suspect they are really more heavy than normal tyres.... the end result is that my FC has gone up :-(......
oh i forget to ask another few other questions on this repair kit:
Q1: after using this repair kit, can u still repair yr punctured tyre at the tyre shop? or will it render the punctured tyres as UNUSEABLE?
Q2: how many times can we use this repair kit?
Q3: if the sealant runs out, can we just buy the sealant component ( I assume it is the yellow box, rite?)
Somehow, the prompt of your queries were not sent to my e-mail. To reply to your questions:
Q1: The tyre can still be repaired at the tyre shop. The repair shop will just wash away the sealant. Unlike other type of sealants, this sealant from Dunlop btw will not damage rims.
Q2: The sealant if used can only used once. If the air leak is not serious, you may want to use the high speed air compressor only and drive to the nearest workshop.
Q3: Yes. The replaceable dunlop sealant is in the yellow casing.
The Suggested retail price of the repair kit with sealant is $130 but Carrefour is selling at $120. And in case this message reach you quickly, you may want to go to Dreamcar Asia Motor show (Singapore Expo Hall 1 and 2 from 30Jun to 3Jul2005 and get it at a promotional price. Look for Active Products booth at the side of the entrance.
Ditched the runflats after on it for about a little more than a year due to premature wear. Still waiting for Dunlop to reimburse me. It noisy and hard but steering feel is crisp though.
I have been on P Zero-Rosso and no spare in my boot. I'm counting on a little pump in the boot.
At $800 a piece... runflats need to be at cost parity with normal hi performance tyres by mass volume before it will be adopted across fully.
Runflats are not commonly available in shops due to control by BMW until recently. Let's know if you found a good runflats with reasonable cost.
Dude,
My Z is running on Bridgestone RE050 run flat.
Pretty grippy but quite hard. As for noise level, it's pretty quiet due to the smaller thread block design.
Still has alot of thread left, can't wait to get rim of them man...Don't like the feeling of run flat tires on a hard suspension-ed car....
