long ago before hand phone was available, I knock into another parked car way pass midnight and broke the side light cover. I left an apology note with my pager number. I replied his call and got an earful of vulgarities and hassle for more than what the replacement is worth. I told him my intention of leaving the contact is to apologise and not listen to vulgar lang (in a vulgar way naturally) and hung up. I did not reply any pager for the next few days. After about a week when I replied, this guy apologises instead and I told him to pick up the replacement at my friend's shop. To my surprise, he said no need and hung up. Wow... what a relief.

incidentally, this happened to me once... while i was stills tudying abroad at that time...i knocked reversed into the back of this car..by accident of course.. well, i left my contact, offering to compensate the owner...

he did call back, quite surprised that i left my number and he said that it was ok and that he would foot half of the bill...

till this day, i still can't figure out what he was thinking...any why in the world he would offer to pay half...beats me..

Ya once i was drinking outside PAULANER, Suntec, this man came out drunk reverse his Lexus RX300 onto a 1200cc big bike & run. I took down his car no. till the bike owner came back, pass him the Lexus no. & got a free German beer haha..

Well, my car was wacked too when i parallel parked it at one of those single row lots. Luckily for me, the person was dumb enough to continue parking behind me and someone at the coffee shop actually told me "the red car behind you knocked into your car"......

I left my hp number and the red car's license plate number and HDB carpark address on that joker's windscreen.

Perhaps its the intimidation of me knowing his license plate and address, he actually called me back!
The damage was not too severe and he offered to meet up to settle the compensation.

SURPRISE!!!! When he turned up the next day, he had with him a few other cars and some sleazy looking characters...... trying to intimidate me. FWAH.....

Oh well, I told him i would take $150 and forget the matter..... guess wat, he bargained it to $100... I lan lan take it los.... for $50 kenna beaten up.... not worth it la....

sigh.... such is life i guess, at least i got $100.

Conversely, if nothing drama (such as in my case) happens, lets look at the other side of the coin..... if someone actually left their contact number, what would you do? would you take the opportunity to "ketok" the guy? would you ask for money? would you get the guy to pay for the full repair cost at pml and not at somewhere cheaper like bvo? I mean, would we actually take advantage of the situation and let the guy regret his decision to leave his number behind? no offense to anyone, i am jus trying to create a discussion here as well...

btw, SMYUEN, i sympathise with your situation.... well, at least look on the bright side of things.... at least its not your GT (seen it at the meet up..... SWEET!!!!)..... and at least you dint have to face a group of thugs like i did....

i guess I dont blame the person who reversed lah... the dent is not like horrid, but on close look can definitely see the lines and indentation in the grill... maybe we will just leave it since its not so obvious...

Last night, some idiot opened his door too hard and left a 15cm long scratch at my driver door and folded my mirror a bit, leaving a scratch on it as well. And I parked in my lot nicely, by the wall too...

when i was drivng my SUV last time, i was sleepin inside waiting for a fren.. then this stupid toyota parked nex to me, driver open his door, dented my door, old guy looked at me and walked away.... i did the same back... wif my SUV door..grrr

SMYuen, this is to be expected.

- my friend's rear got reversed in, while parked in company's basement carpark.
- my company van in the smae carpark got reversed in at the side (no notes left to compensate)

Once, outside a popular porridge stall. cars were parked along the road. a taxi guy after his meal, found that he cannot drive off as the car in front of him is very near to him. Guess what?, he actually nudged the car forward by slowy moving forward. No dent or whatever on that car. I guess his handbrake wasn't fully engaged.....

Hmm, I think I'd probably panic and look around. Then if I see someone's beady eyes staring at me with a, "She is so dead" face, I'd obviously leave my contact details to the owner of the car. If no one's looking, I'd probably drive away, then come back as my conscience goes into seizure from laughing and do the same thing.

Okay, I have never witnessed someone knock into another's car but I saw something weirder. This lil boy, about 9 years old, was walking home from school right in front of me. We were walking behind some cars at a parking lot. He had a coin in his hand and was blissfully moving it around, when we passed this car. He let the tip of the coin touch the car and slided it across. But to his horror, it made a 1m curvy scratch mark. *duh* He stared at it, kept his coin away and walked off a lil faster than before. Poor kid.

This actually happend to me. My wife's car got in to a real tight spot in her office building car park. I went to try and help her out. Her car was really close to a pillar (not sure how she got into that situation). Anyway I was reversing very slowly, all the while watching the pillar, forgot all about the rear and backed into an S-class. There was some paint rub from my wife's car bumper onto his, couldn't tell if there was a dent on his bumber, but our car got a slight dent on nthe bumper. I wrote a note with an apology and my contact number and left it on his windshield.

Funny, he never called back, perhaps he felt the damage was too minor to bother....

another experience to share...my college teacher left a note after backing into a car and denting his number plate. expecting it to cost something like 20-30 bucks to replace, he got a call later telling him the bumper needs to be replaced!!!

sometimes, when you get ripped off just for being honest, you really wonder whether it was worth it...
