What Singapore can learn from Europe By Tommy Koh

Re: What Singapore can learn from Europe By Tommy Koh

Management and engineering wise, tried out some local fresh grad engineers and they seem good. Good attitude, detailed, thinking longer term than just today or this month, learn fast, even if not so good with hands on.

On the other hand, mechanic side have tried out some ITE mechanics and they are horrible. How anyone can be so disconnected with reality thinking they come out of school and without any hardwork, long hours, building experience, go straight to working on Ferrari engines? Can't even tighten 3 bolts, how to work on a 12 cylinder engine? Don't even know the proper names for the most basic of tools, or a fastener callout. Plus want relative high pay for how thoughtless their work is. The Malaysian country-boys with near zero education, but some hands on with their own cars and bikes, true passion for motorsport, have far better attitude, work ethic, learning speed, independence, and are happier with less. Literally 2 - 3 times more worth it than local ITE "mechs".

Great article!

But I have only 1 concern, and that is this;
We (and anyone) can make noise about such social issue(s), but ultimately.. Our dearest Gahmen will just 'listen' and carry on with whatever shit plans that they'd planned. We are at their mercy at whatever's being imposed and implemented. Look @ petrol costs, ERP, ridiculously high COE's, housing costs, living costs, education, decreasing salaries, introduction of rubbish FT's etc.

Another classic example, is during election time.. All the promises, turn out to be voices against their policies which potentially turn out to be detrimental against their visions that they've set for Sillypore.. Every 4 years, we go through the same ol' shit..

As much as I'm born a Singaporean, I really wish to fark off from this country. As much as it's my home.. Sad to say, I've got no emotional attachment of any kind to want to be proud of how SGP has become.

applying 1-for-all policy across all industries is dangerous and we might be moving backwards and at risk of jeopardising all the hard work and foundations laid by our pioneers..

just look around our roads for instance, machiam third world standard..see the cars fukin rock like boats...

WORD! I'm not intellectual enough to debate & discern the nuances of the discourse above, but I can certainly relate to the FCUKING HORRENDOUS 3rd WORLD STANDARD of the roads that is prevalent in Singapore now.

20 years ago, the roads were smooth & the pride & envy of any driver on the roads.

20 years later, I feel I'm in Timbuktoo whenever I drive along certain stretches of Rochor Road or especially that area near Suntec City :(
