What color is the steering fluid ?

Hi,

can anyone tell me what color is the steering fluid ? I think it's CHF-11S grade for the E60.

I'm asking as mine looks "white"ish. Don't know if it's contaminated or not...

I'm used to seeing the reddish color of the DOT4.

most are reddish....never seen a whitish one b4....

whitish means emulsified, got water inside. Which is really weird for steering fluid. somebody put water inside??? coz as far as I know there is no water jacket anywhere near the PS fluid circuit.

or it could have air in it, this is fairly common as well and will make it white in appearance. Just on the surface though

I presume we're talking about CHF-11S steering fluid right ? The oil reservoir that's on the top right hand side (facing the car) on a E60 ?

Hmm, if that's the case, that might be why I've got noises when I turn.... thought I had that fluid changed during the last service... better check it out.

ok, if you have noises and the fluid looks frothy, then you need to top up the fluid

Yikes,

I just called the service center, it's supposed to be yellow to brown color. Sending my car in tomorrow....

that means the oil is burnt

sterring fluid is transmission fluid, same stuff.

when oil is burnt your PS pump may need additional investigation.
