What are those sticking on my Windscreen?

Hi I'm a real noob in ICE and not into good sound actually.

Got my car and there are two 50cents size devices sticked onto the left and right top of my front windscreen with translucent strips coming down halfway, one is banklupt and the other is bosch (pardon me the spelling). The previous owner took away the HU and replaced with a cheapo one so I'm not really sure if the two devices are still needed. I'm going to get new solarfilms installed so not sure if I should have them removed.

Thanks for any advise.

Re: What are those sticking on my Windscreen?

think best to get the opinoin of ur ice installer. they can trace n tell u quite easily.

Re: What are those sticking on my Windscreen?

They're antennae for your radio. Normally installed when owners want to delete the ugly radio antennae sticking out of the boot or roof.

The reception is nowhere near as good as the original, though. Maybe that's why the owner put 2. Most ppl would live with 1.

Whoever's doing the solar film should be able to peel off and stick back on after the film is done.

Oh I see... they look rather ugly on my windscreen, if have them placed elsewhere additional cost again... sigh

Re: What are those sticking on my Windscreen?

It should only cost you minimal to take them of and get your ICE installer to hook up the proper antenna since the ones you have now are really SHITE.

I have not played ICE in awhile already but heard that the place at Zion Road across from Zouk is not bad. Alternatively i used to go to LD audio in Katong Plaza or shopping centre, cant remember what.

Thanks Guys!

Where do owners of E36 normal place their antenna?

if i dun remember wrongly, mine was built-into the rear windscreen, so the oem antennae
cable and connector shud be still somewhere there... (although I'm not sure which year etc. they had the antennae built-into the rear windscreen...)

if ur's need external antennae, ask ur ice shop to reco better, so at least they can be responsible to make sure ur reception is optimised.

if u intend to diy, i'm sure some of the bros here can provide tips to you based on their experiences... not easy, cos it depends on what (extra) cables already fitted/being run within your car, which will determine best way to run your cables to minimise interference. one of the hard-to-master diy, cos reali case-by-case... happy 'ice-ing'!

Thanks richlee7n and MRacer77

Actually my intention is to change solarfilm lol... Not sure if these antenna are before or after the solarfilms and whether can I change solarfilm first then temporary place back the antenna until when I have more time to get them relocated to a nicer place, but worry if remove them will damage the new solarfilm. hmm

you will probably have to change the antenna anyways cause the solar film will cause your reception to be even worse than before. you might want to think about that as well.

i think just go ahead and change the film first.

anyway after market antennae, even those that need to stick on windscreen, you shud do it OVER the film, else the expansion/contraction fm parking outdoors will cause those places to pop up if you install it under the film. if your's already have the oem ones on the screen, juz have to ask ur installer to locate the antennae cable and/or connector.
