weird smell from Zaino Leather in a Bottle

I use the Zymol leather shampoo to clean my car seats before applying Zaino Leather in a Bottle lotion. At first, the smell is great. Just like leather. But about 4 days after, I got into the car and there was a very strong "ammonia" smell. Has anyone else experienced this? i'm worried the lotion I bought has expired or something.

but strange thing is right after application, it smells fine. I don't drive the car much, so the cabin does'nt get aired out too much either. Anyone able to provide some feedback on their own experience with the product?

ammonia smell? i have never heard that feedback before... not from other detailing forums too...

i have been using zaino leather in a bottle all along...no such problem... i dun think those stuff expire also..

Re: weird smell from Zaino Leather in a Bottle

yeah, i tried surfing around to see if anyone else had the same experience. But so far, I have found a few people who commented there is a strong chemical smell that some dislike.

Prob is similar to what I'm getting now. Dunno man, maybe I am using it too liberally. Maciam slathering on sunscreen...

yea same experience here. for my case it was giving off unpleasant smells from the moment i applied onto the seats. maybe the stock wasnt stored properly to the extent it went bad? no idea...

Re: weird smell from Zaino Leather in a Bottle

when i smell the stuff in bottle itself, it still smells ok. But there's a tinge of that "chemical" "ammonia" smell. so i think it's probably just the stuff that smells like that. Are you using quite alot of lotion? I read some guy uses like a dime sized amount for his seats. I surely used about 2 dollars worth of 50cent coins. on one seat alone.

I am tempted to go buy the zymol conditioner instead. I really can't stand the zaino smell in my car right now, but the sloth in me loves the easy application of it.

Re: weird smell from Zaino Leather in a Bottle

I know what you mean, I think you are applying a little too much. Make sure that it is suffice, but not too much. And also, when you apply the cleaner, let is bake in the sun for at least 2 hrs. Then apply the conditioner, and let it bake in the sun again. When you use both of the above, make sure the seats are warm/hot, leather is like skin, when its hot, the pores open up making cleaning and conditioning easier/better.

no leh, nvr use a lot. just put tiny drop and rub into leather, then add more when insufficient, drop by drop one. dun tink use a lot. in fact, after the 2 front seats, i dun like the smell and stopped applying to the rear. tempted to get the zymol one and see how it turns out.
as for the remaining zaino, mebbe will try the method of baking in the sun etc and see whether its better. but can live with the smell lah, just a bit disappointed dun have leather smell lol...

Re: weird smell from Zaino Leather in a Bottle

frm the way i see ur description... i guess it not application error... maybe theres a chance that the conditioner has gone bad or contaminated...

Re: weird smell from Zaino Leather in a Bottle

I have used Zaino before, has it turned watery... if so don't think should use it anymore.

Re: weird smell from Zaino Leather in a Bottle

i gave up the zaino leather in a bottle. Am using Leather Master products now, after getting feedback from another forummer. LeatherMaster is quite good too, easy to apply. only troublesome when applying the Leather Vital before the Leather Protectant cos of the time needed to let it soak in.

no UV protection, but the smell free cabin is relief to me.
