hi,

saw an ad in the ST Classifieds "3 units '93 318iS" When i called, the dealer said that it was a "VERY LIMITED EDITION IN SG" E36 with 4drs.

Is this dealer talking shite or did PML rebadged it themselves and put on a sports package to the stock E36 318i ?

Incidentally, i find it strange tt this dealer happens to have not just 1 but 3 VERY L.E. models in his garage !

This is their website but it doesnt state the 318iS 4 drs
http://www.iguakarz.com/stocklist.htm

Can someone here advise pls

Cheers

Yes there are very limited editions of 318is. Its' engine is called M43. Sort of a sport engine. Much eager compared to its' 318i counter part. The earlier ones didn't come with full M-technic bodykits. Most of them are scrapped by now. And if the mileage is more than 180k don't think about it.

So it's true tt there is a 318IS 4 dr model.

Why is 180k a factor for this particular model ?

some of our members were driving it before they changed cars. i dont think it's rare lah. it's a 16v 1.9L making 140bhp, the same unit found in early examples of z3.

There was one jerk who was driving one of this 318is....

Keep bragging to my friend who was driving a EK4 SiR how fast his car was and how it would run circles round his car....until my friend could not take it one nite, throw challenge to him to try at 40 tiang...

Needless to say...the 318 was creamed left right and centre. The idoit was humble infront of all his lady friends....so much for a ya ya banana.

Well there is indeed one for sale at Textile Centre 7th floor carpark.
Burgundy Red in colour. 190,000km++

with steel hubcaps !!!

dealer was asking for $36k.......

I thought was the M42 for the 1.8L and M44 for the 1.9L? Both 140bhp. Can swap to a S2000 engine which fits the engine mounts nicely 8)

I had a Boston Green E36 318iS for a year in the mid 90s.

Sold it becos the engine was coarse and also not very fast. My 92 Civic VTi was much smoother and faster.

Few years back when few of us got this 318iS, we only managed to clock the 0-100kmh timing of between 11sec - 12sec. Definately cannot smell the EK4 of 7sec.... let alone a red 4sec EK4! A stock 1.6L corolla can clock 9.9sec on the Gtec. So if its for speed and power, this is not the car. For handling and road feel, this is good for a start.

Actually between the 8valves M43 and the 16valves M42 & M44, insignificant difference in performance when on the road. Only can feel slightly more pull for the 16valves engine at high speeds above 120kmh.

M42 1.8L 140bhp ...... <1995
M44 1.9L 140bhp ...... >1995
Both are the 318iS engine block which looks a lot bigger than the M43 block.

There is nothing wrong with the M44 engine....in fact I find that its much better improvement over the M42.

The problem is the driver....who thinks that BMW slaps a Sports sign on the car automatically it becomes a Sports car....same for some Civic owners....who thinks that their car is the fastest thing on the road....which somehow is what some WRX owners thinks now.

U know a sub4 Red EK4 too ??
