Hi bro n sis...

looking forward to joining the family of BMWs soon... had my eye on this babe, a 1992 BMW 318IM i found online. Hope to net this girl once I'm home (working oversea now)

I know this is a very old BMW... around 16 years... is this model what u call E36? Please enlighten this newbie here. Was wondering if I should get a newer model but really love this design like forever... so am gonna stick to this choice despite the possible maintenance woes... which also I would like the old bird here to give me some tips on where to go for mechanics good with german cars...

Cheers!

Re: Wanabe

It's the only one with this design I like and comes manual... I'm not a big fan of auto, haha... what's club sandy?

I've tried to get information about this model/year but it seems like most people here are playing around with all the latest model... :( hopefully some ex-owner can help out... better still hope to meet the exact ex-owner of this car I'm eyeing... haha... :yummie:

Re: Wanabe

Club Sandy initally started off with E36 members and its still mostly made up for E36ers for now but hopefully we will have more other models members too like our dear heeraj...hehe
u can try do a search for our club sandy outings in this forum to have a look at our rides and our gang....haha

Re: Wanabe

Hi Kiwipang.. the E36 is a great ride although I personally prefer the E30 which is smaller, perkier, and feel completely different from all those car I ever driven prior to owning one.

The E36 is very balance in many ways having a great chasis, rwd and having ample space for daily transport. It can behave nicely most of the time when I am into my regular road hogging mood... but when you get stressed, that her to a series of quiet twisty roads and she will bring back that smile before you reach home.. a nice way to greet my family again at the end of the day...at least for me.

For more information on the E36 history, you can check out bmwinfo.net. A manual is definitely the way to go if options are available... otherwise,.. with a little more horsepower, the E36 auto still doesn't dissapoints. It may be less loaded with gadgets but it is still about the most advance at its time.. so good side to it hence would be easier to maintain and well mod...:D

Do drop by our Club Sandy outing or the monthly BMW-SG meetup when it happens and you probably get to see E36s and a whole range of other bmw models as well.

Re: Wanabe

wow.. thanks for the warm welcome...

i can probably buy a new jap car and it's gonna be another transport, but buying this would be a little dream come true, haha.... i was a student when i fall in love with this model... now finally can afford it.

hopefully the dealer haven't sell this babe by the time i'm back mid this month...

fingers crossed now can buy her and drive her down to Club Sandy... :yummie:

Re: Wanabe

Dun think they will sell this car fast.. as u mention pple are worried to own such car without putting effort to TLC the car. But if you join us, u can see E36 is a great car to drive.

iScoupe... Wanna ask you ah since the rest of the guys totally ignored me although Phil was nice to phil me in on his opinion. What do you think of this? BMW 318IA Details - sgCarMart should be after FL looking the lights. What do you think is a reasonable price? Phil mentioned 75 is good and he wuldn't pay more than 80. From your pt of view, how much would you pay for something like that provided the condition is ok... :) :) :)

Re: Wanabe

hi and welcome. and fp.. i won't pay >73 for it. 80 is just too steep.

Re: Wanabe

FP, iScoupe just want to steal your stocking... don't believe ask Phil...

btw, me not ignoring your query.. me just don't have the faintest idea how much to offer..it depends very much on the chemistry between car and me.. I began looking at 320 (E36) and ended up paying a hell lot more for my current 316. Quite a few relative disowned me there after.. still need my opinion???

Re: Wanabe

Just now all ignore me suddenly all answer me... Not fair, you all like kiwipang better hor humppffffff...

I know 80 is just way too steep but was thinking how much I can press the price down. I was thinking I was just and see and if another month it's still there, haha then I can make my move. If not there then too bad I guess.

Jaws, lemme guess, you wife strangled you???

Re: Wanabe

Wife will strangle me if I more attracted to Kiwipang better than to you...kekekeekekeke....gauging from what is normally sold to dealer and then their asking price, it is usually a 10~15% difference, hence begin with a 10% negotiation and get a counter offer... this is without due consideration to the state of the car of course... hence determine that first before commencing your negotiation...test drive and a good look over with qualified eyesight should be mandatory for investment of this nature.

2 of my good friend just bought the similar car as this, one bought from PML damn expensive ! the other bought from friend @70K with paper value 74K.. well alot of crazy pple out there.. for this i think below 78K is a good range - It got the M bobykit (expensive kit from PML) & AC rims. if is real AC will cost you at least 5K. Well is all chemistry as Jawzsg says, i bought my car in 5mins just becos the 1st look. Go down have a look , use watever reason & bargain, there is always a price when the seller will be ok to let go, u know sale tactic..1st thing go there must love the car then dun like the rims & bodykit la hahahaha.. then say all the bad thing then offer a stupid price $70K..
