We live in interesting times, definitely. With so many cars able to reach outputs of more than 1,000 bhp, a 325 bhp vehicle may not sound very impressive, but wait until you see the VW Scirocco GT24, presented at the GTI Meet 2008, in the city of Klagenfurt, Austria, near the Wörther Lake. It may not be as fast as these machines, but it really looks good.
The competition version of Scirocco takes all its 325 bhp from a 2-litre four cylinder turbocharged direct injection engine, also able to deliver 340 Nm already at 2,100 rpm. The DSG transmission will also be on the GT24, a reference to the first race the car will face, the famous 24-Hour Nürburgring race, to take place next Saturday.
If the car is not as powerful as many of the other competitors, at least it will have very good drivers to count on, such as Hans-Joachim Stuck, Carlos Sainz and Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen Chairman for Development. In endurance races, resistance normally decides more than outputs.
