Vibration Problem

Ok, here is my problem:-

I got a used set of E46 OEM M3 rims from a fellow bro in this forum, I fixed up everything and everything was fine, but being a pro safety person I decided to dump the old tyres which was almost 5yrs old and got a new set of Toyo T1R tyres from Yap Bros. But finding the front rims being too deep in and not looking very nice, I drove over to South East Tyres and got myself a set of Eibach 15mm spacers and fixed it in. Voila the whole car looked much nicer but after driving out, I found the steering starting to Vibrate at 60Km/hr and stopped vibrating once I hit 90km/hr.

The next day I went down to Stamford Tyres Lok Yang to balance my front rims, they found that the tyres were not mounted properly and they took out numerous times and tried to correct the problem but found that the problem could not be solved due to the defect in the tyres but only slightly. I also did my alignment due to my rim size and width had been changed over the 16" oem rims and tyres. After this, there wasnt anymore vibration and the problem got solved.

2 days before I bought a set of used Eibach Springs off another fellow forumer and went to lower my ride yesterday at River View. After lowering, I did my alignment and I found that my steering vibration problem came back. Thereafter I tried balancing my rims again but still the problem does not go away.

So I am pondering what should I do next and my questions are,
1) should I take out the spacers, let my front looking fugly,
2) get another set of rogue engineering spacers from WIlman to replace my eibachs,
3) go back to Stamford tyres and get them to solve my problem again,
4) any other suggestions?

Re: Vibration Problem

your problem damn complex leh. go stamford again.

Re: Vibration Problem

Sorry to hear bro...

But your problems started with the spacers and that is the lowest cost option to troubleshoot. Remove the spacers is what I would do.

Hi Bro,

Thanks for your advise, I will go try it one last time to balance the rims before taking out the spacers ya. :)

Re: Vibration Problem

When you balance the rims, ask the tyre shop to check the condition of the rims (when it is rotating on the balancer equipment). See got any warpage or not. You can see it when it is rotating fast enough.

Did your steering vibrate when braking or at a particular speed? If vibrate while braking could be due to warp brake disk. I had that problem last year. Good luck with your trouble shooting.

Hi Bro,

I went to quite a few tyre shops, I got them to check out the condition of the rims, and all of them assured me the rim is ok. The tyres are not even though I bought the tyres new. Thanks for the advise bro.

Yes indeed bro, it only vibrates from 60+ to around 90 thats all. I tried up to 200KPH in NS Highway recently and not vibration from 100 to 200 man. Hmm Strange leh

Re: Vibration Problem

Ok, today finally had time to go down to leong seng to took out my spacers due to the super irritating vibrating steering issue. Their first comment was, eh how come ur spacer so loose one, meaning the centre bore is shaking very very slightly, they discovered that the eibach spacers that I got from South East is for older version of BMWs??? Meaning centre is slightly bigger by 1mm++??? Is this true? They remarked that spacers made for BMWs are very good fit and needs some slight knocking of the mallet on the spacer to fit nicely onto our wheel hub. Hmm....think I gotta find some time to look for Ah Hoe to check it out on this. Maybe his guys mistook that all BMWs have exact same centre bore sizes. Finally I am getting onto something now.....heehee:)

Re: Vibration Problem

Hmm today I went to South East, they took out my rims, balance again, measure here measure there, then put back then ok already. No more vibration. Strange man, don tell me those 3 to 4 tyre shops I visited balancing machines got prob??? hmmm...well anyway no vibration is good. heehee. I also don like spacers, but not cos of the fact that I like the M3 rims very much and I do not have much budget, else I sure get the progressive MEs 19" with the correct offset.....sigh...when am I going to strike the toto so i can get the M3.......sigh....:)

Re: Vibration Problem

balancing machines just test your wheel + tyre. Stamford they quite ready to do MOUNTED BALANCING which the stupid spacer also get tested mounted. So I guess the balancers are all OK, just the method is wrong.
