vertical line on side mirror

Re: vertical line on side mirror

The vertical line seperates the convex area (the outer area) of the wing mirror that covers more surrounding viewing area so that you can have a better image of the traffic.

Re: vertical line on side mirror

It is like have a wide angle mirror at the side in order to see your blind spot.

Re: vertical line on side mirror

Initially BENG thought that line was some permanent marker lines so tried to rubbed it off with glass-cleaner...kekekeke. Yeah doesnt look like wide angle mirror leah, more like just distinguishing which cars are in further out lanes.

Re: vertical line on side mirror

abit OT but curiously, anybody can say if bluish tint on side mirror has any purpose? anti-glare? seems that only bimmer has such blue tinted mirrors, or are there others?

Re: vertical line on side mirror

Sometimes when I am doing a parallel parking, the side mirror will tilt down while othertimes it does not - i read in the manual that there is a auto tilt to see curb...whtat triggers this as sometimes it tilts while other times it doesnot

Re: vertical line on side mirror

Hi murphys33, you'll need to switch the side mirror adjustment switch to the "Left" to enable the tilt function. When it didn't tilt in the past, it was probably switched to the "Right" position. rgds

Re: vertical line on side mirror

erh, shouldnt it be to put switch in the "right"? asked this befor too and that was the answer i've got...

Corretion:
Switching to the LEFT disable the tilt function.
Switching to the RIGHT enables the tilt function.

I normally disable it because i prefer to see where my bumper is heading then to see where is the curb.

End of OT.

Back to the lines, i also thought it is to aid judging the positions of the vehicles around/behind your car. At least that is how i used it.

The passenger mirror tilt is dependant on the model also. :)

For E46
1) when your switch is on the left (passenger), the passenger side will tilt down according to your preset.
2) when your switch is on the right (driver), the driver side mirror will tilt down according to your preset.
*preset is when you put into reverse and you manually adjust the tilt to your desired angle, even upwards.

For E90
1) when your switch is on the left (passenger), mirror tilting is DISABLED
2) when your switch is on the right, passenger left mirror tilts down.

And I rechecked, the vertical line, the mirror is convex - thus wide-angled. Please check again. :D kekeke

Re: vertical line on side mirror

Does this apply only to the stock mirrors?

I find my car's "elephant ears" totally functional, but have been toying with the idea of changing to small ones... itchy backside.

Re: vertical line on side mirror

I agree with mobilefriend. That was the case in my e46, but I noticed it's the opposite for my e90 now... you must have the mirror switch set to the right for it to work.
