hi guyz...

Would like to find out if u all hav any prob wif vandalism recently... ever since i gt my car in jan i alredi hav 3 scratch marks + 1 dent (from these locations: west coast mac , whampoa and people's park)... was wondering if others r having tis prob as well...

Also like to know is there any pencil paint (those wif very fine tip) that i can buy to cover up those white lines... (mine is a black car)...

Re: Vandalism Problem

West Coast Mac? That's a place where lots of forumers here hang out frequently......

(1) Are these places your common parking spots? If yes, you might wanna take a sterner approach to these rascals. Report to the police (for documentation, not that they can do anything). What for, you'd asked? Think of it this way - if every victim in that area report their incidents to the police, I dun think they will reckon the culprit as a random vandal. If he is habitual, the odds of arrest is higher.

(2) How deep are the scratches? Bring your car to Yew Lip shop for an assessment, and Angie might be able to polish/buff it off if not too deep. Not related to or vested in Yew Lip, just that many forumers here visit them for jobs like this.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

Re: Vandalism Problem

hey thanks.... seems like yew lip hav a lot of gt comments frm other forums too... k will go to them these few days...

Re: Vandalism Problem

sometimes even if the paint has been scratched out, you can still buff it to mask the scratch. depends on whether the car detailer has the time and desire to slowly sand the area down for you or not...

You are welcome here, Carrie. But go check for pricing against your budget.

Depending on the extent of the scratch, the choice is between Yew Lip (cheaper - more value for minor works) and Mike / Sim Wee Chuan (more expensive, but better jobs for major projects).

hmmmn.... not too sure abt tis leh... bt if sand off then tt portion of the car the paint will be thinner rite?

Re: Vandalism Problem

yes, it'll be thinner, may or may not be noticeable. whatever the case, will certainly be less obvious than using a pencil paint to touch up.

i've sent a PM.

hmmmn... mine is the rear passenger side door and the side bumper more obvious, over there are 2 scratch.. both abt palm length and also a dot dent... so shld i go yew lip or mike/sim wee chuan... is mike/sim wee chuan the address in the forum list for workshops as well?...

oh ya then there is also 3 hairline scratch frm the front bonnet the bm logo stretch all the way to the side of the bumper... though the scratch is long bt nt tt obvious only under certain lighting or angle then its obvious....

see all those lines damn sian... wat worst my car nt even 6 mth old...

Re: Vandalism Problem

i install real-time digital video camera recording onto SDRAM at 3FPS. if u want good coverage, 1 front and 1 rear will be great. once u get to find out who the vandal is.

as for spray painter, i tried mike at ubi. his job is great!

Re: Vandalism Problem

Hi Carrie,

I have 2 light scratches on the right side as well, courtesy of the previous owner. Would appreciate if you could share with me your estimated quote after paying Yew Lip a visit. I have been quite busy and not to mention a little lazy lately to go down. Thanks!! :)

1. camera abt 500buck a piece is not expensive if u want to wack then sue the vandal.
2. read my experience with mike at http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/exterior-section/8878-paint-job-required-2.html?highlight=mike
3. do note that there are others who are mentioned here are just as competent too.

nike on ur car?? r they crazy or wat, sorry for u...

Re: Vandalism Problem

i've had a customer whose car was vandalised so he installed a camera which came with a little sticker which warns people that the car is protected by a surveillance camera.

a week later, his front and rear windscreens were smashed. the camera didn't capture much as the person approached from the blind spot. so on the video, all that was seen was: one minute calm, next minute the front windscreen shatters.

sometimes if the guy is out to get you, the more you try to catch him, the more you agitate him and fan the flames.

on another note, if you get scratched by a guy who's envious of you for driving a nice car, getting it resprayed quickly might just incite even more envy... resulting in more scratches... best to hold off repairs for a while.

Re: Vandalism Problem

err. like that also can. your customer must have a very nice car.
1. use wide angle camera to cover 180 angle.
2. then park at a strategic place to make camera coverage worthwhile.
3. install additional RF camera near (on carpark ceiling, tree) but outside car, transmitting signal to recorder in car.
4. install EM-shock deterrence capability on car.

still dont work.
5. change car to a not-so-nice korean or jepun car.
6. sell the nice car and take bus or mrt.

then let the weirdo come directly after u instead of the car. then settle it out there and then.
