Value of Life

I was driving home after another Teochew dinner...

A pair of xenons crawl into my rear view mirror...As I coast to a stop...I see a spanking new BMW Cabrio with the top down...Indian IT looking exc...He looks over...gives me an eyeball, signals his recently acquired vehicle as a sign of sucess. I note it as a sign that is too similar in Silicon Valley...

Then I note a pair of infant hands waving in the back seat... His little infant is in the lap of his spouse, crawling around. Harnessed by his extremely agile and caring pair of hands...I wonder how much faster her hands are compared to the proper restraints.

There are alot of ignorant parents around in our developed country, but today, this set of parents, toying around in their newly acquired 200k BMW...leaving their infant toddler to enjoy the cool evening breeze....without a proper childseat...this just signifies what the true value of life is to some people...

quarter million dollar bmw cabrio
traffic stops to admire you and your sucess
infant baby being flung about or thrown out from an accident...
need I say more?

Re: Value of Life

while i agree with the sentiment - some guys on this forum definitely need to learn not to include unnecessary details

including the phrase "indian it looking exec" immediately turns this as a rant against indians in general, so the question which comes up first:

why are you being racist?

Re: Value of Life

Well depends on how u read the thread... chill.
Seriously who cares he indian IT or money changer or wat ride he driving or no baby seat, think everyone just have to be more responsible to their family especially on the road, even is a 60's VW beetle or Nic BMX.

Re: Value of Life

I dont think he is being racist at all in wot he described
Nthg wrong with being specific

The driver was indeed and Indian and he looks like some IT executives

Sounds ok to me

Re: Value of Life

so what if the infant were put in a proper child seat.
is it safe to travel top down when you had an infant inside the car?

Re: Value of Life

Whatever it is, drive safe and shit wont happen to u and ur family.

it all lies in the hands of the driver la.

Re: Value of Life

nothing is safe nowaday.. Drink coke oso kena choke and died. Swollow own saliva might get choke too. Smell smeone fart might faint and nv wakeup.

I guess minimising the risk is so much one can do nowaday.

Re: Value of Life

this absolutely cracks me up this thread

reminds me of that maid and that child. SAME thing in my mind

i am always shocked to see kids jumping around in cars unrestrained. I wouldnt even let my dog do that.

all talk, no action. wait till a child goes through a windscreen and listen to everyone say to be safe blah blah.

Re: Value of Life

Accu.. you worry bird shit may dropz on them ah?? :D

Re: Value of Life

Jo, I asked cos I felt even with the child put on a proper child seat strap. the cab shouldn't top down too. maximize the protection. imagine some bikers throwing away cigarettes while riding. you wouldn't want that butt to flow into your car and worse into your infant eyes or something.

like ah Orh said, "minimising the risk is so much one can do nowaday"

Re: Value of Life

I've seen my little brother crash into the air condition in a Volvo during hard braking. I've heard friends' kids fly from grandma's arms and crash into the windscreen during braking.

My kid never travelled without car seat, except for a 500m ride to kid's school in the 2 seater in mom's arms.

everyone is a racist by nature, its in our genes.we prefer to stick together with our own kind its a natural instinct.Discriminating is another issue.

my brother in law son flung forward from back seat and cracked the windscreen when emergency braking.(no seat belts)lucky no damage to skull and brain, only bruises.
now i always ask my kids to belt up.

Re: Value of Life

It's true, passengers young or old should be strapped in.

With a proper child seat in place, I guess driving top up or down is the same lah... which means, just as unsafe. Being on the road is inherently so because it's not only your own actions that matter!

It's probably worse when it comes to taxi rides, cos infants are held in arms and everyone is at the mercy of a stranger's driving habits.

Re: Value of Life

I am a fascist when it comes to passenger safety in my car.

Unless all of the passengers are safely strapped in, the car ain't going nowhere. I am the captain of the craft, I am responsible for the safety of passengers and crew, and I will decide when it is safe to up anchor and to proceed with full steam. No dissent will be tolerated.

Unfortunately, the captain of the craft these days can sometimes be found unrestrained, climbing about in a passenger seat. Young children pretty much dictate everything their adult parents can and can't do. They decide the toilet stops, the meal breaks and now passenger safety in the family car.

All I can say to parents who abrogate their duties is that Darwinian selection provides an excellent platform for weeding out undesirable genetic traits. Parents who treat their children as children and who exercise good parental judgment will ensure that these traits are passed onto to future generations. Lousy parents who let their children make life-and-death decisions will find their little darlings splattered over the windscreen (or road) and not dilute the gene pool with their bad genetic traits.

See? I did say I was a fascist.

perver, i think i love you. brilliant speech *claps hands*

this comment was the best

I wish it were only true, hahahah

Re: Value of Life

well, if only we could reproduce fast enough to effectively weed out undesirable genetic traits.

that being said, it makes sense to belt up no matter what. but it's a mindset change that has to take place.

wasn't there resistance years and years ago when the first seat belts were introduced?

Re: Value of Life

as phil said, let one die, and others will learn.

its too bad, but someone has to learn from shit and others will get to see shit before they know shit for shit.

Re: Value of Life

why so much shit?

why does it have to be a knee jerk reaction to anything? can't anyone just simply step out and decide? why are we paying millions for knee jerk reactions?
