Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

Need some serious advice here;

About 4mths back I experience the ABS warning light coming up , with warnings of the Falt tyre monitor failure. Went to a workshop and was informed that the ABS module is faulty and needs to be replaced, apparently a common problem for the 335i. Was quoted $4k+. Decided to go pml and asked them to check as car mileage is only 26k than (no more warranty though). They kept car for a whole day, run some test, cleaned some sensors, erase code and all went well after that.

But now 4 mths on the light went on again as of yesterday. Can any Bros out there who had encountered this sort of problem offer some advice and some remedy. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bring back to PML again, maybe brake pads and sensors need to change.
Which workshop told u abs module need to replace 4months ago?
Your car no warranty?Any DTC warning light?if yes then confirm bad news.

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

Hi Topless, no DTC warning light. 4 months back when BVO advised me on the ABS module change, i wasnt convinced as it shows no error code the moment it's plugged in for diagnostics. I brought to pml for second opinion and was told that they decided to remove sensors and clean it as their diagnostics also do not reveal a faulty ABS module. I told the guys in pml thats its damn dissapointing if its the ABS module since the car has got only 26k mileage. Its got no warranty as its more than 3 yrs old. Would they be any power reduction when the ABS is not in play? Coz the error codes on the obc just says to aviod hard braking and driving stability greatly reduced. What else shouldi try to diagnose this problem? Thanks for the feedback

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

Yes, is common problem and will cause u 5 k to replace it.

The worst thing is, once ur abs module have problem, it will affect a lot of others parts and your car will never be the same again. Told to me by pml technician.
Took the painful decision, sold the car.

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

Had the same problem before to my E90, ABS warning light on. Confirmed by PML it was ABS module kaput liao.

I claimed warranty on the very last day before expired, but the bill showed nearly $4K as what hitmee has indicated. That was about the beginning of this year.

Hi,
A few questions that u may need to share with us so we can "diagnose" better.
1) Did you change your intake filter?
2) After the sensor cleaning at PML all was smooth for some time?
3) Although the warning light is on, there is no noticable difference to driving at all right?

If all the above are yes, then you are likely to have a very dirty or faulty MAF sensor.
Nothing to do with brakes or ABS itself usually. Cleaning will improve it for a while but it is building up too much static and trapping lots of dirt and grease from the air flowing through. You should be able to replace one for a couple of hundred bucks.

Hope it helps you and other bros around.

:)

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

Hi Bro Marcellus, thank you for the feedback.
1) everything about my ride is 100% stock
2) yes, After the sensor cleaning at pml, all was fine.. Pml didnt even charge me anything for it.
3) yes, no noticeable difference to driving. Power is all still ok, just that braking i can feel a difference.

The last time PML told me that it could be the sensor faulty and quoted be about $200 odd buck. But when they cleaned it and realised that the error codes were also cleqred, they decided to hand me the car over to monitor, no such problem after that. The obc keeps displaying " Flat tyre montior failure" permanently after the warning lights come on. Is this also common for an ABS module problem?

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

Jan '07, should ne n54 i reckon. Btw pml came back and informed me that the problems lies with the wheel speed sensor that is linked to the abs module that is creating the problem. Quoted that part and labour is abt $800/-. Any bro can comment on this? Also informed me that the special tool neded fro the repair had been sent for serviving and as such repair will be dalayed by another day

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

this is a common problem and bmw released a repair kit which doesnt involve replacement of the entire dsc hydro unit. this sounds like the solution that pml is offering you.

most of the outside workshops go for the simple fix which is to replace the entire dsc hydro unit which is $4-5k.

when i had to do this repair, i ordered the entire unit from tischer in the US and had a local workshop install. cant remember the exact numbers, but saved myself around $1k+

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

Hi Bro Kuvesh, thanks for the insight. So i guess this time around it was a safer bet to go to PML instead of the workshop outside. Anyone else encounter this problem before as well? What do you htink of the price quoted by PML. sounds reasonable enough? May i also ask where did you get this 'inside' info that PML has got a new repair kit released for such problems?

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

from memory, some guys in the UK had the repair done by their dealer.

do some search on for bmw part “Repair Kit, control unit DSC” (part number 34516777165)

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

btw, reason why i didnt go for the repair kit was that i couldnt find anyone with experience with it locally and i didnt want to take the risk

Re: Urgent help- ABS warning light on 335i

So what do you think of my decision to let them go ahead with the repair kit? Do you think it's a wise move?
