urethane bushings - worth it?

Hi all,

it looks as if I'll be in the market for a few suspension bushes soon, and I've been tempted by the harder urethane ones out there.

Has anyone tried them, and are they worth the trade-off in refinement for the immediacy in steering?

Also, is there a local place to get them from, or is eBay the way to go?

Would appreciate some advice :)

Cheers,
LJL

Re: urethane bushings - worth it?

It depends on the way you see it really....

I have powerflex bushings on my E46 for about a year now, front and rear wishbones and sway bars. The difference when i changed them was amazing, excellent response from the steering, less body roll, and a slightly stiffer ride. All in all i was very happy. For the past month or so i've been having annoying cricking sounds form my rear bushings, which apparently is normal. Polyurethane bushings require good lubrication with grease when you install them , and you might have to re-lube sometime in the future (depending on driving style and road conditions). But this is something you do not hear when you go and buy them...I still like and enjoy the way the bushings work, but the cricking sound is driving me mad. I could fix it but removing the rear wishbones but....it is not cheap....

Thanks for the feedback. Where did you guys get your bushes?

Re: urethane bushings - worth it?

You can try superpro pu bushes, they are from aussie land. For your e34, either you've got to order them or check out the agent in KL. Hokomoto

if you are going to the trouble to replace all your bushes, may as well replace ball joints etc as well. Cause you have to remove everything anyway to do the bushes, then make sure get a good wheel alignement guy

Re: urethane bushings - worth it?

Thanks for the advice, guys. I figure I'll get my new rims and tyres (waiting on a set of bottlecaps), then do the bushings and change everything with a ball joint in it, just to get that factory fresh feel :)
