Twin exhaust problem - tickling noise

I believe those BMW models like the 6-er has the same. My 335's left exhaust has a vacuum hose and flap on the left(viewed from rear of car) that is suppose to be closed but will open as you gas the car above 3000rpm or so. This I understand is to prevent droning/rattling at low rpms especially when driven in D mode. Thats also why the 2 rear mufflers are connected. This feature is suppose to so called add some back pressure when you launch the car.

At check done at BVO yesterday suggest that the flap is loose. Bernard could use his hand to 'shake' it. This lose portion has been giving some rattling noise when I push start the car esp going upslope....a bit irritating. So what shoudl I do?

1. Replace the whole exhaust>>buy from someone else.

2. Claim warranty>>from PML and should be a headache!

3. Saw off the exhaust and get rid of teh vacuum thing altogether and replace with a straight through pipe.

4. Do nothing and suffer silently everyday, ie Garm Gio !

Get it replaced under warranty.

Rather have a headache then spend un-necessary $.

Re: Twin exhaust problem - tickling noise

I heard you can put a ball bearing in the hose that will keep the flat permanently open and no droning will occur.

I think it's called the "Golf Tee Mod" in the forums. Golf Tee mod on google link.

I got under the exhaust, kinked the line and cable tied it up. No ticking and a bassier growl on start and < 3000rpm. However, there is a slight drone on the expressways.

Only took me 15 seconds and a dirty t-shirt! :D

did the golf-tee mod a few weeks ago..confirmed i have same observations as above..the exhaust sound is much louder when i start engine in the morning (shiok!) and slight drone at lower rpm on expressway..

stright thru!!! but u must b able to tahan the noise....its worth 50hp though

Re: Twin exhaust problem - tickling noise

must be the cheapest mod out there..only downside is got to clean two exhaust tips instead of one..b4 mod, the left-side tip is almost free of exhaust residue..now slightly dirtier..on some mornings like today..the exhaust sound was so loud that i momentarily thought that i had tubi exhaust!!!:cloud9:
