I think every 318 owners are very keen to squeezed out any extra ponies from the gut and go to ecu path and find that only OBD Tuning do facelift e90 318i. I went ahead and did a reflash 6 wks again and find that the result is pretty decent. car is more responsive and torquey... but surprisingly also better FC. although this could also be changing out my RFT during the same period.

To cut the story short, I want to know what is the actual bhp & nm gained and was searching high & low in the net. Initially, thought it OBD tuning is Optican tuning, until I tumble on... http://www.viezu.com...Now, at least I'm happy what I'm payng for.

Next, will the exact no. from the Performace silencer. I've emailed to PML and they hv responded that they will check with Germany.:chinese:

Does this void your warranty? Did you check with PML on this?

Once you touch anything in the engine bay (warranty void), etc etc....the list goes on.....

cheers

Hi there,

I did the same ECU reflash with OBD Tuning about 7 months back. The claimed increase is 20 bhp and 25 Nm. This means that we should have 156 bhp and 205 Nm. This matches the 320i in bhp and 5 Nm more torque than the 320i (320i has 200 Nm). It now drives like a 320i and is especially evident when you push it hard. It is good to finally find out the actual ECU source - i.e. Viezu Technology.

I have also done the BMW Performance silencer with PML about a month back. They had a 30% discount special on parts and 20% discount on labour at that time (up to 31st May 2010). Paid about $1400 including inspection by LTA. You will get a letter from the LTA about 1 week after installation saying that the installation is approved. Call up PML and Alexandra and ask for the parts department. They can help you. A very nice guy called Mr. Moosdan (or something like that) from the parts department is who I dealt with. Quite a hassle-free installation. I think you will like the further improvement in the car's performance especially in the higher-end of the rpm range (3000+ onwards) where the difference becomes quite apparent. I also sounds very nice and subtle - not too loud and no drone. The twin stainless steel exhaust tips also look very aggressive.

Btw, what is your FC now with the normal tires? I am also thinking of getting rid of my run-flats after they wear out. A new Continental RFT costs more than $400 from PML btw.

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

Yesterday thought I will get the performance exhaust slapped into my car together with the performance brake...shit out of stock and waiting time is 1 month...sianz oledi....

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

better spend another $100 to get a dyno result especially after you have installed the bmw performance silencer :D

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

I just checked with the Viezu website. Look at the top-right corner of the website in the Performance Tune section. It states that the 318i's original bhp is 140 bhp compared to the spec from BMW Asia which states 136 bhp. Anyway, the increase in bhp is 17 bhp and 24 Nm. This brings up the bhp to 140+17=157 bhp. This is probably what we are getting with the Viezu tune.

In other words, with the Performance silencer installed, you will probably be getting 160+ bhp. Slot in the front intake air-scoop and you might be seeing another few bhp gain - coming closer to the 170 bhp mark of the new E90 320i engine that Asia including Singapore does NOT get. I hope the new 3 series in a year or 2 years time comes with the new engine. Viezu can tune this engine up another 14 bhp giving 184 bhp - not bad for a 2-litre NA engine.

One other thing, just remember to use 98-RON fuel. There is a stark difference in performance between 95-RON and 98-RON. Unfortunately, different petrol stations of the same brand (I use ESSO) seem to supply different quality 98-RON fuel. My current fill seems much better than my last refuel - even the FC is better.

I just love my BMW!

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

dont think much diff in BHP/torque improvement although the PML guy says big difference but looks good and better sound.. also time to change brake pads/rotor so just dump in the perf brake as I believe it vast improvement over the 320i stock one especially important when you travelling above 140kmh...

Now PML trying to find out how to get my exhaust approved by LTA since I am only entitle to purchase the parts alone....still waiting for him to call me....

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

who, who call me?

tuning? hmm... time to call them... hee.

for those who can't wait for the BMW performance silencer, go for the Eisenmann route and i am sure there is no regrets!

:)

BMW does not claim any specific increase in bhp and torque. The difference is my "guesstimate" from my "bum-a-dynometer". The increase especially in bhp is obvious from mid-range upwards. I think 5 bhp or even a bit more since I can actually feel it. Anyway, my 2 cents worth.

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

Is there any reduction in low end torque? Thats my only concern..

Not at all. That was my only concern too because I had this very problem when I changed the exhaust system in my previous cars. Anyway, as evidence, my car is very happy to cruise at 1600-1800 rpm with no signs of stress.

Note that I am using stock air-filters and intake. I suspect you might lose some low-end torque if you make the air-intake and exhaust too free-flowing.

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

Good to know else regret later.. but its like block the nose but clear the arse hole...it should but clear the nose and regulate the arse hole??

dun waste your money...go buy a 335

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

I am saving for the F30 but now my car is in mid life crisis and while waiting for 2012 to arrive assuming its not amargaedden yet; thought of peforming some lipo suction else dont look forward to drive the E90.

I would prefer the S5 over the 335i ....

That's right, why stop at M3, how about getting a Ferrari. Oh I just remembered that most of us can't afford it yet, so maybe sell the house and buy a Ferrari with money to spare for any other upgrade. :errr:

I like to listen to my car farting but don't want to hear the sinus. :shakebon:
