Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

Dear All,

Need your valuable advice on above topic.

So far, Yoko Advance Sports seem to be the best price/performance combination. Semi-slicks take too long to indent into SG. Tire size is also an issue cos mine are staggered. 245/40/18 front and 265/40/18 rears.

As far as rims are concerned, i'm looking at either using the stock rims, or changing to BBS or some cheap charlie Taiwan brand.

How about spacers? good or bad?

Thanks.

You will be disappointed with Advan Sport for a track use
U are better off getting the Advan Neova AD07

For a cheap track rims, perhaps u can consider the brand Privat...
Quite a few guys here are on them. Available at RayS Kaki Bukit

Gd luck

Re: Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

Is Bro Wilamn using the Privat Profil? And are they really light? I know my 21" ACS Type IVs are heavy as so anything lesser would be a bonus. Just want to make sure it's really a lightweight rim before settling for less.

Re: Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

yeah it's light but i dunno how light
else, u can try OZ Ultraleggera too, good brand and probably lighter but costs bit more

Re: Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

Privats abt 9kilos, ultralegs abt 8.5kg , better go for ad07 or toyos r888 (hard to get yr size tho n need to indent) , any street or high perf tyre for sure will get destroyed when u push em hard !

Re: Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

thanks for info.
went down to ray's today. advice was to keep my stock rims and tyres (Mich PS2), kill them and keep them for future track use. then come back and change to 245/40/19 fronts and 275/40/19 rears (with original eibach spacers) for road use (Advan Sport tyres). I can then indent other tyres should the need arise later on...

think this is sound advice, and will probably do so since the PS2s should be pretty good for track (but also pretty expensive)...

any views?

cheers.

Re: Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

PS2 are one of the better street tires for track use....

AD07 very good as well. only that PS2 are slightly better in the wet...

RE070 is the standard tires used on the previous model of STi.
Size is quite limited unless they are bespoke to a certain car like the Nissan GTR which is wrapped with 20in rubber of the same tires. Then u wonder, where to get 18in? No chance.

Re: Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

maybe u can give Hankook RS-2 a try.. not that bad.. cheap as well.. :)

Re: Track Tires and Rims - Advice Needed

Ed,

Take it easy this track day, your PS2 should be quite good cos you're not gonna push your car to the limit.......

Know how your car behaves & handles this track day, then we plan properly for the next track day with proper semi-slicks.....then you'll know wat's the diff between street & semi-slicks!!

ED,

agree with tripleM, not much time to source for tires especially when TDs are nearing. always the case! some good semi slicks need time to indent ship from overseas. spore just dun have their sizes!!!

wilson also damn correct. ps2 quite good but yr power is humongous, so learn how yr car behaves 1st lor this TD b4 changing to monstor slicks!!!!!! hee...
