not sure if what i'm experiencing is the same as yours: at stop lines esp. when engine started after long breaks, can hear some continuous vibration/ ticking sound, not loud but audible. however, when vehicle is running, even at low speeds, or after driving some dozens of km, sound is gone.

same here...when you just start the car...its quite obvious...but once it runs...gone...

someone posted a audio clip of the ticking sound in E90POST | The BMW E90 and E92 Page (dedicated to the BMW E90 Sedan / E92 Coupe / E91 Wagon / E93 Convertable and M3 variants) forum u can see if yours is the same sound ... apparently something needs to be replaced, i read it sometime back.

hmm.... im having the same problem with my e90 320i too... it sounds like a bomb... brought it to auto bavaria and they didnt do much abt it....

The "tick tick" sound might be water dripping down from the air-con compartment. Sometimes, in car park where many makes of cars has parked, I noticed the largest quantity of water dripped from the air-con compartment of BMW saloon.

the cause of the sound is tappet noise, it will happen when your engine is started cold, when the engine warm up and engine oil start flowing nicely, the sound will disappear. unless the sound refuse to go away, otherwise it will not be harmful to the engine. if you are really bothered by it, try flashing your engine oil, as it could be due to the quality (cleaness) of the engine oil, changing the engine oil might help.

Anyone managed to solve this?
I realised that my ticking noise is coming from the center console and has some relation to the air-con. It goes off when i turn off the air-con or switch off the auto air-con. Seems like some valves diverting the flow is causing it.

even E36 have....tick tick sound from inside the engine compartment; only on cold start.
After warm up & is gone for the day till next morning or cold start.
BVO suggest pour a STP engine oil & is gone. E90 not sure
