I never tried the Tibo but got my hand on Garmin when i head north last weekend to attend a wedding dinner at KL.

In order to get used to it, i fiddle around locally when i go STOP or when i am going anywhere..

Locally, it's pretty accurate but because most of the time, i know the way in Singapore so it cannot be put to real test. Only 2 times i noticed the thing was not precise, one of them was Alexandra Road passing PML on right going to Leng Kee Road, the thing tells me to turn right when Right turn is not allowed.

Then the real test come when i head up north, on NS highway, i didn't use it cos i know the way into KL. The moment i past the Sungei Besi toll, i on it and let it guide me to KLCC, it took me 3 hour before i finally off it and use the guidance sign. Not exactly was the direction poor but it was because of the rapid road work within KL and also the numerous flyover and the map cannot keep up.

So for those who hope that it can guide up inside KL, then i supposed it's not the best thing to do although it was be a good start and get the general direction. But for those who r totally lost in Singapore, i think this is pretty decent to get than to stop by the roadside and frantically flipping the Road Directory...

Re: Tibo GPS Nav Software

Hi Sei and PiggyBoyz ... I have been contemplating with the idea of getting myself a gps system for a while ya. Yesh I do get disoriented in singapore and I really hate the darn idea of finding my way in this little island. Since both of you guys already have the respective systems, would you guys be kind enough to post some pics on how it will look like when it is mount in the car. I am really worried about how it will look in my E46. Thanks ya in advance... cheers ; )

Re: Tibo GPS Nav Software

The only other point I would make in addition to Piggy's comment is that if you are not sure if you are going to keep a GPS system, and you have a PDA already, try it first.

It is rather straight forward to setup a PDA based GPS using Garmin Que software, the map is free and your only investment is to buy a bluetooth GPS receiver. Even that, look out on PocketPC forum, there are people who are selling off theirs 2nd hand and can be had for a small price.

I bought a Compaq PDA for $150 used, spent $200 on BT GPS receiver (new) and setup the whole thing for my use.

I like Garmin software because the map is constantly being updated by a group of enthusiasts at malsingmaps.com

There are other things you need to consider if you are seriously into buying something to keep, for example:

1. What hardware chipset your GPS receiver is using? The latest is SiRF III chipset that will acquire satellites a lot faster, a lot more accurate and handles reflective signals much better.
2. What software the GPS is using. If you buy all in one, make sure you play with the software to see if you are able to get used to it.
3. How often the map is updated? If you have a good GPS unit with outdated map, it is not going to be that useful.

My 2 cents

The one that i used, which is the Garmin, is a stand alone unit. It come with accessories like the stand, where u can put the set on top of the dash board. It also comes with a car charger w/ a speaker. U will get aural instruction when u pluck it on.

Check this out...

Re: Tibo GPS Nav Software

I can get one tibo and still have 7k left for other mods...

However, i will consider paying 8k if Sin navigation system can be as advance as this!!!!
I was using this in Japan and it just kick ass..... How idiot proof you want it more to be? I didnt even need to know where i am going. Just key in phone number will do.

Btw, this is the OEM BMW X3 Nav with Japanese software.
