Throttle response

Hi Guys

E46 2.0 Valvey. 3 yrs old. 49K km.

Recently, just changed:

1) Rocker arm cover gasket
2) Oil sump gasket
3) Pwer Steering hose
4) Pwer Steeriing pump
5) Control arm bush (OE)

Immediately after the above, car behaved differently. I am not sure whether related or not:

- Slightly more vibrations when engaged in D during stops
- Sometimes throttle down when moving off and rpm hesitates and goes down a bit to 700+ before going up normally again. So, a lag is created.

GT one detected NO errors......................

NB! What cld it be huh???

THANKS!

Starting smoking at a young age could be one of the reasons...

OK, back to my thread please!

Re: Throttle response

Engine vibrations at stop on D - u need a new engine mounting.
Throttle down when moving off and rpm hesitates - got vaccum leak in one of the intake hoses

Re: Throttle response

Ok, thanks! But likely which intake hose?

Sorry, I don't even know how many possibilities I am looking at for my N42..........

And how do you solve this and is it an expensive job?

Thanks!

Re: Throttle response

Check the hoses at these area, make sure they have no cracks or loose. So if u want to inspect them yourself heres a guide... other than that i think i ever felt that on my dad's e46 N42, press the accelarator the response got 1-2 sec delay then it revs.. but this doesnt happen always... once in a while....the drop in rpm is like fuel overflow or lack. Say Toby does it happen only when the engine is cold? Have u changed the Secondary Air filter of the emission control air pump?

Bro

Thanks. My N42 is 2003 version and from then onwards, they Don't come with the Emission control air pump at all. You see one lobang there where it is supposed to be when you pop the hood. Something about it being Tropical specs etc.....when I checked 3 years ago.

Ok, my symptoms are intermittent and not neccessarily when it's cold. The lag is actually a momentary dip to 700+ rpm which is actually maybe 1/2 a sec and not 1 or 2 sec. Doesn't always happen, if not, easier to pin-point............

I will try to check on the hoses in the first pic and see if there are any notable cracks or something...........

Thanks!

I will keep you posted.

Re: Throttle response

Some updates for N42 owners who may be interested......

Took out my plugs cos I thought they were the problem......Surprise! All 4 looked black at the firing tips and this (According to Bro Yendor another guru) is a sign of running too rich

Which points again more or less to what ersalle71 said about possible lose or leaky intake hoses leading from MAF sensor to block.................

At least narrow down what could be causing the lag issues.

Will keep everyone posted (for those who are interested anyway)

Anyone with similar experience care to share your solution?

Cheers!
